It's All Black and White

Image taken 30 years ago just about to the minute - Rolleiflex 3.5E, Schneider Xenotar. Tonight it is warm, that Thanksgiving it was so cold I was shivering and was afraid I'd blur the images even with w heavy tripod and cable release.

In Paris

Good pic! There's something about black and white shots. They take on the nostalgic feel. I'll never make it to Paris. Please post up some more while your there.

Lovely work! Your "model" is stunning and that Citroen... I hardly know where to begin..... I've driven one a few times, would have bought one back in my Toronto days if the parts situation hadn't been so iffy. *sigh*

I didn't get to drive the Citroen DS but I did ride in it. And what a ride! Probably the most comfortable car seats I have ever sat in. It belonged to a gentleman who had three of them from different years. My wife was put in touch with him as she wanted to use one in a photo shoot she organized while over there, for an ongoing project involving cars/fashion that she's working on. And yes, that's her in the photos. She's a photographer but also occasionally a model so I can't take a photo of her without some sort of pose being stricken. Which works well by me.

We had a wonderful time in Paris. The people I met, through her connections, were just wonderful human beings. I really grew to admire the French. Nobody had the newest of anything... their mobile phones were 2 or 3 generations old, their cars were small, a bit run down but got you there, there homes were modest, sparse, but filled with interesting things and cozy. They seemed to care more about human interaction, food, and art more than just about anything else. Lots of very long, involved, meals with bottles of wine and stories. A truly amazing culture, and one of the two most beautiful cities I have been to. Barcelona being up there, too.

Oh and that Citroen...the shot of it outside was taken at the site of the old factory, now "Parc André Citroën."

So it was a sort of homecoming for it. The owners of this car didn't know my wife or I from anybody yet they worked with us for 8 hours in wind, rain, and hail, driving it to 3 different locations just so my wife could tell the story in photos that she wanted to, and so that they could be a part of it out and help out an artist. I truly cannot express enough gratitude to the Parisians that I met. Just fantastic people. This idea of rude French people, I don't get it. I didn't see a single one, and I must have interacted with hundreds of people. I'm blown away by how much better they seem to be at what matters.

I am in agreement with them, what matters most is the people in our lives, not the things.

I've had the same experiences over a number of trips. I think the thing with the French is that they don't in general suffer fools gladly. The people I've met seem to be far and away more interested in who you are than in what you own.

As to the Citroen - we have a member (another Bruce) here on Haven who has owned a number of them over the years. Maybe one of these days when I'm back in the state of mind to own a "toy" car (ie. not a daily driver) again I'll hunt down a DS. With the internet parts availability for unusual cars has to be far better than it was in '81 when I last considered buying one.

Recently I shot a roll of Ilford PanF (ISO 50) with the Leicaflex SL and 50 f2 Summicron. Very impressed with the potential in the combination.

I did a pretty normal resolution scan of the negs, noticed after looking at things carefully that the resolution of the film and lens was far higher so I might rescan them at some point.
