    hmmm...
Never considered the 300B all that hallucinogenic/dangerous -- maybe (maybe) a 50. The 50 is definitely habit forming, and more expensive than the finest drugs with significant abuse potential.

So -- let's see, would that make, say, the 50C5 Thunderbird?
    The 60FX5 Colt45 Malt Liquor?
    The KT100 Everclear?

I definitely agree re: the EL34, FWIW.

More to the point -- wonder if "we" could somehow lure Mr. Dudley over here? That would - I'd opine - be very cool.

    The 60FX5 -- a whole, mediocre amplifier in a one-section tube.
Who needs a power transformer, HV power supply or a driver stage?

Being as nearly every founding member of the Haven was a Listener fan... I imagine he would feel quite at home here.

Does anyone know him well enough to extend an invitation?

    I did ages ago. Crickets.

I wonder if @BruceK is still in contact with him... just musing, you know?

    ;)

  9. Art is far too wise to venture out into forum land. Too many crazed freaks out there.

I did a vintage panel with Art at Capital Audiofest and he was besieged by off-topic crazed lunatics throughout the hour.

If I were him, I would think hard about even going out in public.

Yes, Art would sympathize with us, and like the idea of what we are doing as a group (thanks again, PM, for building our little clubhouse), but he would never join in. To answer Mark's musing, yes, I am in touch with him on a regular basis, and also with fellow editors Rob Doorack and Jim Bailey. It's possible one of them might find time to join in — I'll float that prospect their way and see what happens. But I'm confident that Art is too protective of his privacy.

Rob Doorack -- that would be interesting. :)

So...EL84 is beer? Anything from sh*tty domestic piss-water to excellent microbrew / imported?

Yes, I wondered, too, about the omission of the EL84. For many years I had an Altec 355A mono integrated that ran EL84s and it sounded fab.

I am an EL84 fan, I'll admit it freely.

Admitting it is the first step.

There are several EL84-based amps that sound totally fab. I admitted it. Where's my pin?

Yup....the Almarro A205a uses EL84s in SEP. One of my favorite amps. :)

My old Dynaco ST-35 amp used 6BQ5/EL-84/7189's and it too sounded fab mated to the right speakers.

    I love my ST-35.

Also Heathkit UA-2 PP EL84 Monoblocks and AA151 PP EL84 Integrated.

And Eico AF4 - another EL84 SEP integrated.

    Yup.....I love the EL84. :)
