I feel duty-bound to mention that KEF LS50s are still on sale @ MD

It seems like a lot of people like the Kef LS50 when they first hear them. It appears after getting them home and listening to them with their current electronics they grow tired of them.

Yup! That seems about right.

I'd still like to hear a pair.
One of the local hifi gurus had opined to me that the cheap ELAC Deubt blah-blah-blahs* stomped all over the LS50s, took names, kicked 'em to the curb and generally violated all of their Constitutional rights (not to mention the Geneva Convention)**

______________
* ahem, Debut 2.0 B6.2 -- Okey-dokey, (finally) the ELAC "DEBUT 2.0 B6.2" loudspeakers are, umm, speaking
** metaphorically speaking, that is. :-I

The problem with "giant killer" status is that it is rarely truly achieved. ;)

I have no experience with the Debuts, but the Elac Uni-Fi UB5s are, in my opinion, easier speakers to get good sound out of than the LS-50s. While the LS-50s might be better speakers overall, the UB5s are better speakers for the average person with average amps in difficult spaces.

While I've not heard the smaller stand-mount Debuts, I've heard their small floorstanding brethren sound fantastic...albeit with some rather powerful and somewhat esoteric amps behind them, and a state of the art server/streamer/player.

So much of this depends on too many variables for any of it to be universal. Honestly, some speakers raved about here make zero sense to me and my experience with them. But I don't doubt they impress their owners in ways that I'm not listening for.

Well said, John.

Our's is a very personal hobby with very personal decisions regarding the equipment and the music.
