Recovering audiophile & speaker builder

Hi Folks, I just discovered HiFi Haven, so I thought I would see what is going on here. I already belong to AudioKarma, DIY Audio, etc for many years now. I started out as an audio hobbyist in the mid 60's. I built and still own Dynakits (ST70, 4-Mk3) Heathkits, Knight Kits, and some you have probably never heard of. I officially entered the audio biz in 1978 and designed custom speakers for a few decades. In the 80's I was working with the movie studios and installed a number of screening rooms in most major stars, producers and directors homes. When the 1989 recession brought the audio biz to its knees, I went to work with my buddies Wally & Wally at Speaker City USA designing speakers for their line. In the early 90's I decided to bail on the audio biz due to the fact that EVERY recession killed the business! I got my GROL FCC license (commercial class) and went into broadcast engineering. Still there, but now I am a senior broadcast engineer. Still love audio and I am one of the few audiophiles in broadcasting.

Welcome to the Haven. Really looking forward to your insight and contributions. Curious as to your current system/setup.

Cool history and welcome! I also installed dedicated theater rooms here in New England, primarily pro athletes. Also love the Dynakits, my restored ST-70 sounds great with my home built Cornwall clones. Looking forward to reading your posts.

I’m certainly an amateur on the technical aspects of things so it’s always great to have professional knowledge & experience, welcome!

Regards,
Andy

Welcome to the Haven. Really looking forward to your insight and contributions. Curious as to your current system/setup.
My current system is currently under design. After 18 years in our home, we decided to remodel the family room top to bottom. So my old high efficiency satellites will be finding a new home in another part of the house. I am probably going to use some of my long stored parts to invent a new system. My wife really loves a design I did 30+ years ago that used Focal 5" mid bass drivers with a Focal T90. But in unpacking the speakers I discovered that the tweeter surrounds have been devoured by smog. So much for using foam surrounds on tweeters! I am considering building some new speakers using some NIB Dalesford 165 Mid Bass, and some Foster T02 planar tweeters that I still have a bunch of. This combination of drivers will work well crossed over at around 2 khz with a 3rd order passive network. The Dalesford's will also benefit from a Zobel network to stabilize their impedance curve, the Fosters are ruler flat from 2k-40k so they require no compensation. I will likely drive those from my Mk3's in the winter and a PS Audio II plus in the summer. The new subs will be corner horns. Back in the day Dr. Bruce Edgar was a dear friend, and I spent many fun hours sharing ideas with him about horn design.
