TAVES - Yamaha AS-3000 - biggest surprise of the show?

I'll start off by saying that I am neither a big Yamaha fan, or a B&W fan. I've owned both, but they leave me cold.

However, the AS-3000 and the big B&Ws, (I'll look up the model number) sounded seriously good. Shockingly, no F'in way good. Aside from sounding good, the Yamaha was beautifully made too. It was kind of the counterpoint to my negative Oracle/Spendor experience.

An added bonus was that the lovely and charming Anne Bisson sang and played for us in the same room. As she was warning up, she sang along with one of her own recordings through the Yamaha/B&W system. It sure was interesting to compare the two - live vs recorded.

I have her first Album...You should hear her in DSD 128.....such transparency and clarity to her music! Her piano notes just linger in the air!

This is good to hear - I grabbed all 3 of her albums on vinyl at the show and had a nice chat while she autographed them. Been saving listening to them till I get a few hours to do it right.

I think I've under played how much I enjoyed this room. Seriously. As I said above, I got to listen to the lovely Anne Bisson singing and playing both live and through a recording. Live in front of me, on that lovely Yamaha grand piano. Recorded behind me. I was really, REALLY surprised how close the recorded playback was to her live, unmiked, singing and playing. Not an experience I had before, and I can't imagine when it will happen again. But it really was scary close.

Is that the same model B&W that we could hardly bear, at London Audio? The ones powered by the McSeparates?

Wow, that AS-3000 is beautiful. Not that I've owned anything like this, but I've always found the 2-channel Yamaha stuff rock solid. I've got an old RX-something or other that still sound great. How much does the AS-3000 go for?

Having experience with modern Yamaha components such as the RS700 and the like I am nnot at all surprised that this massive AS series does very well.

My backup amp is the Yamaha A-S500. I sometimes wonder why I own any other? It is a tremendous value, and overall a good listen.

Yamaha was showing off their own speakers this year. Very different sound, but still very, very nice.

Did you hear the Soavo f901? Because those are pair I'm very impressed in.
