This rusty old thing is filthy and it smells like beer...

mmmm... I see what you did there :-/

Up and running! I added RCA jacks through some chassis holes that were exactly the right size, and tapped in at the second gain stage. The output connectors that came with the amp had never been soldered - I suspect this thing was unused surplus equipment, based on that and the general condition otherwise. Output impedance is set at 8ohms. I got some real nice tubes from Bryce and brought it up slow on a variance. It came right up and is beautifully quiet on sensitive speakers, thanks to the well filtered power supply. It sounds real sweet. Highs are clean and clear, and quite extended - I'm not hearing any roll off at that end. Lows aren't as impressive but my speakers are 16ohm 5-inch fullrangers... I'll reserve final judgment of these transformers' capabilities until I've played around with other speakers. Overall, I'm impressed and very happy with this thing!

Mmmm, I shouldn't be jealous.... Wait, no, I really am happy for you..... Hapy thoughts happy thoughts happy thoughts :p

I went to a local buddy’s house yesterday for a very informal audio shindig, and brought the old amp along.

It acquitted itself quite nicely, paired up with some of @ejfud's RESOs!

For a bone stock, seventy-something year old amp, this thing was amazingly well behaved. It didn't overheat, hum, buzz, or throw off any odors... In fact, it was dead quiet on these efficient speakers, and sounded really really nice!

Was that rack-mounted, Nate? Looks like the bottom (with the schematic) has rack mounting brackets. Would explain the possible 4U amp width.

Just an idea, Nate: would be cool to have some custom interconnects that use the custom screw-on connectors on the outside corners so you could hook everything up at one end (unless the inner vs. outer connectors are for different OPT resistances).

That thing was shockingly amazing. I think we had a little system magic going on yesterday.

It was a great afternoon with some great gentlemen.

No, you're right - the inputs are out the outside corners, as you surmise... If I thought I could find the "period appropriate" connectors, I'd be all over that idea!

Take a close-up of the connectors - perhaps the mob can help?
