How many amps power your main stereo system?

Feel free to just answer the question or get into as much detail as you like. A receiver counts as “1 amp”. Thanks!

Also, if you are running a self-powered sub or subs, mention that as well. Lets keep that separate to get a better feel. But if you have a passive sub or subs and power then with a box, not a plate, those count of course. Thanks!

Good question. I suppose Im just trying to get a general feel for HFH members (whose opinions I have great respect for I might add) preferences with regards to breaking power (and speakers) down into more individual units in an attempt to get a better sound (and/or more low end) out of their system.

Man Cave system: Choice of 1 2A3 or EL84 SE stereo amp or 2 845 or 300B SE monoblocks (depending on which pair of speakers and my mood).

Living Room system: 1 stereo amp (PP EL84 tube amp or Class D - with linear power supply - amp).

Four or Five stereo power amps ( quad amped)
when multi channel implemented soon there will be many more. Not sure how many yet. four to six more stereo amps at least.

All my systems currently just have a single power amp. I have always been big on mono blocks, but lately... just 1 although I have a couple options as to what that one is.

Depends on which I’m using. Usually it’s one stereo amp, but I also have a pair of Stax mono amps. I guess that’s two, but it makes up one set for stereo.

Preamp has 3 stereo outputs in use...one to 2A3 SEdhT stereo amp to 605B OB main speakers, another set to 2 powered subs that come on automatically with pre, and the last set to 2 2A3 SET monblocks to deck/outdoor kitchen speakers and/or second set of speakers in main system.

two stereo amps - one for each level of stacked advents. actually right now a pair of cabasse sloops is the top pair, on top of large advents.

PS currently running out of a single preamp. but looking for a way to run two integrated amps from both a cd plyr and a turntable.

One with solid-state and two with tubes. There may be a third or fourth when I figure out how to integrate a sub with the “baby” Altecs.

Main System Option 1: one 300B preamp, two stereo 2A3 amps, one stereo 45 amp, one stereo 300B amp. Option 2: one Saga preamp, one Vidar amp.
One phono preamp common to both 1 and 2.

I use one mono amp per speaker (Altec A5) and one mono as amp for sub.
I do have a Merchand tube XO I used to biamp with and may return to biamp once my next amp build is complete.

Wait, did we already cover you having a vidar? I’m still contemplating getting one. Your impressions on it?
