Today's Jazz Playlist

Following the rabbit hole that @Juncers laid out with the Kenny Kirkland album above, I stumbled across this one:

I don't recall this musician... and the album is 25 years old. A hidden gem I think, for me anyway. Features Jeff Watts - drums, Rodney Whitaker - bass, Kenny Kirkland - piano, and also Nicholas Payton - trumpet, and finally Branford Marsalis - tenor/soprano saxophones.

BRENT MASON - HOT WIRED (1997, Mercury)

If you like that, try Danny Gatton’s “Redneck Jazz Explosion”

Strange that I have a couple of her Live at the Green Mill recordings but not this one?

FWIW - Ms. Barber's single, River, is a masterpiece within her body of work, and a terrific example of what can be done when recording with 24/192 in mind.

Please excuse me in advance for this snide comment, but if River sounds like CD to through your rig, you are in need an upgrade ;)

Damn, looks like I might have to buy myself some music. Not sure I have ever purchased anything from HDTracks before.

River is favorite, I enjoy several versions, looks like I have 8 versions, a multitude via Tidal/Qobuz.

Not jazz, of course, but while you're at hdtracks.com, check out the full concert of CSN 2012 in 24/192. The CD had just selected tracks. Side-by-side the CD, which I had thought excellent, sounds weak. The recording engineers really put in the extra effort. And the old boys gave a remarkable performance.
