New Haven Feature - Chat Room

Yesterday we launched a new feature for the Haven - our first chat room! The software is working fine, though likely we will do some more tweaking with it in the coming weeks.

Just look for the button marked “Chat” just under the banner.

One of the great features of the new chat software is the ability to share media links in chat. So a number of us were chatting until the wee hours of the morning last night, sharing songs in the room by way of YouTube links. Chillin and chattin with friends, and sharing good tunes.

So please feel free to drop in. Some of us know each other better then others, but don’t let that dissuade you. Jump on In!

I like the chat but looks like it may have some bugs. I'm using Chrome and after I enter each message it requires me to click back in the text box to write again. Seems the cursor should stay where it's at but doesn't.

I was annoyed by that as well last night. Hopefully that is a setting we can change.

I’ll try that today with Chrome, but I haven’t seen the problem.

Incorporating new features is always a bit of a challenge. Please keep using and reporting issues.

I know this has been reported, but I just want to go on record with this feedback. A part of the chat room functionality seems to have gone belly up. If an individual goes into the chat room, the indication of how many are in the room goes to 1, regardless of how many are actually in the chat room. The list of participants shows only the person that just entered the room. None of the other participants show on the list. The participants can interact with each other (chat) but there is no way to know who is in the room. This is frustrating, as one does not know if anyone else is in there, unless one sees someone else making chat posts. From outside the chat room, the presence of others in the chat room is not indicated in the "chat" link at the top of each page.

Additionally, the /whisper function appears to be disabled, as attempting to use the function returns this message: "You do not have permission to use this feature.:

Enjoy,

Chat seems to be working again. Folks now show as being in there, in the chat room as well as in the link at the top of Haven pages.

Enjoy,

A trick discovered...

When you click "chat," you can click "browse rooms" then you are taken to the list of available rooms. If you look at the room names, it will also tell you who is in there, before you go in.

Enjoy,

I've been trying to find out if there's a way to turn off the bloops and bleeps of the chat. Even if I'm not in it, I wondered why something was making noise through the computer speakers. Realized it's the chat. (Thought I was going crazy, more so than usual!) I don't see any option to turn sound off, other than muting the tab in the browser.

Can't find a setting to turn that off, without turning them off for folks "in" chat, and I have been looking. You might go into each room and formally leave it, by typing /leave

That might do it. If you join, but don't formally leave, you have joined that room. That may be why you are getting audio notifications.

Audio notifications have been turned off in chat. Please verify that you no longer hear them in the main forum.
