New toy for me to play with...

Hey guys, been a while so thought I’d offer an update of sorts. So, about 2 months ago I had the chance( and took it) to buy a functioning and pristine condition Pioneer PL-570 for pretty much a song and dance! I have re capped it, opened up the dreaded gear box to clean out the old grease, re greased, than put her on the scope to bring her back to spec...... what a magical piece of equipment, showing off just how advanced technology was some 40 years ago!!! At the moment I am awaiting a Goldring 2400 to mount later this week!! I had purchased a Kenwood KD 990 ( also for a fairly good price), but in the long run was not as enamoured with it as I was with the 570, the good news is I made enough from the sale of the 990 to outright pay for the new Goldring, pretty happy about that!!! Pics to follow once I have the Goldring mounted!!

I had one for a number of years as well, finally selling it about a year and a half ago to a shop owner who wanted it for his own collection. It had developed issues with the speed towards the end, and the auto-mechanism required me taking it apart a few times but it was a fun table. It spent most of its years in my collection as my wife's turntable before we got married (I guess that would be her collection?). I was the 2nd owner, buying it with its original box from a fellow who'd bought it new and dragged it all the way to Alaska and back.

Fun, that’s a great way to describe my feelings towards this table!!! Not the pinnacle of TT’s but soooo much fun to listen to!!!

So I received the Goldring yesterday and mounted it and have done all my adjustments, gotta say I’m pretty tickled pink by this combo!!!! The Goldring reminds me of my old Clearaudio Maestro ( to date my all time favourite cartridge, MM or MC). Lovely, lovely indeed!!!

Nice system. Also - first time I've seen the use of custom shelving such as yours - Fir? Good to hear you are having some fun with your PL-570.

Nando.

Thanks! Started out a 92” slab of Ash felled about 3 years ago from a chap about 20 minutes from me!! Lots of sanding and 3 coats of semi gloss polyurethane. Ordered the brackets from a fellow local to me as well, had them welded up and painted black, pretty happy overall with how they turned out!! This is how the started out......

That Goldring is a very nice cart. I listened to one (or similar, from the range) at length on some pretty spendy tables at a friend's store. I bet its a good match for that table.

Agreed John, it is indeed a lovely cart!! Have heard Goldring here and there but until now have never owned one... after researching for a while I came to the same conclusion as you that this would mate up well with the 570, so far it has not disappointed!! It doesn’t hurt I got a fantastic deal on it also, less than half and new in box!
