I just ordered some Schiit!

That looks to be another nice amp. I wish I wasn't so hung up on aesthetics. I prefer a silver amp to compliment the new preamp and my Audiolab CD transport, but I can also live with a a good sounding amp that doesn't. I also want power/high current because one can never have enough headroom for transients, etc. Decisions, decisions.

If it brings you pleasure, then nothing wrong with being hung up on aesthetics. I am firmly in the camp that besides being "good sounding", audio equipment should also be aesthetically pleasing. It adds to my pleasure of listening to music if the equipment playing the music is also beautiful.

I looked at some of the more affordable amps from Nord Acoustics when I was considering separates at one point a few years back.
They are U.K. based but ship to the U.S. for a reasonable fee. And they come in silver.

I have an OG Freya paired with a Rotel RB-1582 MkII. Speakers are Dynaudio Evoke 10 with a SVS SB-1000 sub. I like the set-up. The Rotel isn't full of bells and whistles, but it has gobs of power, high damping, and the ability to power 2 pairs of speakers simultaneously (it isn't an A or B either/or set-up). I get to use speaker level inputs with my sub which made some improvement in subjective quality to my ears. The amp really brings the Evoke 10 to life - at night, if I want to be courteous but I'm not in the mood for headphones, I can turn off my sub and listen without feeling that I'm missing a lot.

The new Freya addresses an issue I have with my OG Freya - new model shuts off tube gain when it is not in use. There are also improvements in noise level, etc.

I’m replacing my Freya with a Khozmo Acoustic passive, but I will still keep it on the rack because it looks cool and doesn’t deserve to be packed away.

That Rotel in Silver sure is a pretty nice looking amp. I am almost locked in at this point for a Class A/B topology. I love the versatility of the Freya+ (Tubes, Jfet, or passive). Part of me wants to keep the continuity of manufacture and just pick up a Vidar or 2 and if I don't like it I can just pay their restocking fee and move on. I could also violate my own self imposed budget restriction and go up the tree further, but at some point I make the preamp the weak link.

I totally get the continuity of manufacturer.

Be prepared to be patient with Schiit. They have supply chain issues - certain parts are hard to come by, and it is causing them chaos. Freya + is a back order item, and speaking from experience, Vidar orders are taking longer than usual to fill. I just cancelled a Vidar order I placed on 1/29/21. I opted to go with a Parasound NewClassic 2125v2 for my secondary system over the Vidar.

I’m a Schiit fan (OG Freya, Gungnir MB, Modi MB, Vali 2, Magni 3, Loki, Eitr, SYS), so I’m not trying to smear them. I’m just relaying recent experience. If you can be patient, you’ll be happy with Schiit.

This thread got me thinking about the Aegir again. Hmm....thanks?!?:)
You know, Schiit is a one stop shop now too, they are selling TP and masks. I actually like that they build great products and don’t take themselves too seriously (a poke at audiophile companies).

The Freya+ is on backorder. The website says it ships on 3-25. I sure hope I don't have to wait longer than that!

Don't mention it...😇

Honestly, just treat yourself to an Aegir and report back what you find 😎.

I wonder how much the big freeze and storm related power outages in February set back Schiit's plans to move some of their production capacity to Corpus Christi?

It was said in late November that they had purchased a building, and in December they suggested a February opening for that facility. Something tells me that might have been at least somewhat delayed, though I don't know if the severe weather and power outage situation actually affected the Corpus Christi region or not.

Any thoughts from our TX-based membership?

Aren't they based out of California? Or, did they get sick of the high tax base and move to a tax friendly state.

they were originally from California, they have a 2nd facility in Utah, & are in the process of expanding to Texas
They did say that the HQ location and all R&D would continue to be done in California, but "some" production would be moved to TX. I was merely wondering out loud if the expected February opening date in Corpus Christi might have been pushed back due to the troubles from that terrible storm and ensuing power outage debacle.

I've been mulling it over a bit, and I think one reason why I'm drawn to the Schiit gear, is that it usually feels very analog in use. Not from a sound perspective, but just the knobs, buttons, etc just feel good. The only thing I don't like about my admittedly lovely sounding Calypso, is that it seems you are making requests of the computer to make a change, rather then just turning a knob. Just seems to cut me off a bit from my system.

I agree with your thoughts on this. I like the simple no frills approach of the Schiit gear.

I think I am in your camp. I just ordered a Vidar to go with the Freya+ :jump

I just got a Schiitty message that said the following:

"Hello,
We are sorry for the inconvenience, due to parts being delayed the Vidar has been back ordered. We are hoping to resume shipping by April 21st.
Thank You
Schiit Audio"

Still no word on the Freya Plus. I can't say I wasn't warned. Good thing I am so (im)patient.

The Schiit has finally arrived! I have about 5 hours on it so far. It came with a quad of JJ 6SN7's, but I used this opportunity to install a fresh NOS matched quad of Sylvania 6SN7 GTA chrome domes (circa 1955) that I bought just for this occasion. I only have the power amp section of my NAD C356bee to use it with because the Vidar I ordered is still on back order, but so far I like what I am hearing. The preamp is getting better as it gets playing time. More to follow...IMG_1448.JPGIMG_1449.JPGIMG_1445.JPG
