MEADOWLARK AUDIO SHOP PICS

So, am I understanding correctly that you're refereeing to the MiniDSP Streamers that include Dirac, or are you refering to the Dirac upgrade box?
I'm presently evaluating the SHD series with an eye towards bundling a complete turn-key solution, breaking the tired old "component" stereo mold.

Ideally, a Roon end point with Dirac. Buyers are specifying Roon. The SHD works for that, sounds great and the price is right, but I'd like setup to be easier, it'd be too hard for me to support. But, hey, give it some time., they'll get it right.

Just me, I can't think of a reason not to stick Dirac in the signal path.

Has the advantage of easy of use. Never a bad thing.
On second look, NAD C658....aaahhh... Dirac but no digital outs? That's astonishing. A processor that only outputs analog? I'll be shaking my head for a while. And there's something about sticking Dirac between an ADC and a DAC that gives me the heebie-jeebies.

Ya know, ya bring up a good point. I went with digital into my Little Wings rather than analog. I assumed that MiniDSP would have an easier time, or be more accurate processing a digital signal. Have I assumed too much?

A certain gentleman has inspired the build of a next gen speaker in the conventional format common to brands like Spendor, Audio Note and Harbeth.

The idea is to "fit in" while breaking the mold; the expected form that surprises by delivering the modern resolution and dynamics needed for HD playback. So, yep, Meadowlark Harrier Classic shown here at the start of prototyping.

Common to all of our designs: the Satori beryllium tweeter. Then the max-res Satori 13cm mid shared with Kingfisher - OHMG what fine micro detail in the hard to get upper mids - and the brutal 24cm Satori woofer we use in Ibis and Nightingale. 100x250x250W Hypes FA253. A nice recombination of proven parts we keep on hand.

The cubby at the upper rear holds a minidsp SHD streamer / Dirac processor/ Roon endpoint, we'll include as standard equipment. A complete stereo, really, just hook up to your network and add tablet.

A contrasting veneer baffle will fit into the rebate at front. Outer and inner baffles will be elastically decoupled, total thickness 1.5625"

......and a pair of Nightingales awaiting prep to be veneered, alongside some work from our millwork biz. The 100 year old stuff and its replacements.

NIce Pat! Woofer just shy of 10". I'm trying to figure out the puzzle. How does the lower woofer compartment channel to the top vent on the rear?

No more VBs for me, too messy. Good riddance. Now just critically damped CBs with gobs of boost via DSP and amp power.

Much smaller and simpler. Much faster sounding.

That hole in the rear is a cubby in which hides a minidsp SHD Studio streamer / Dirac processor and, if you care to, you can use it as a Roon end point.

So you put this speaker on your network with your library and streaming service and control it with either a browser or the Roon app.

Dirac room correction is a game changer.

I'd love to hear that mid!

@Pat McGinty how does it compare to me 7.5 inch?
You should hear that mid. It works like magic with the twin sixers in Kingfisher. Resolution-o-rama.

I'm hoping that we'll find a happy hand off with the bruiser 9.5, we'll see, that's what prototyping is all about. If we can marry them around 3 or 400 cycles we should be fine. So that'll require extra attention to the cavity. If we overwork the mid by running it too low, it will close up under pressure - the last thing we want.

The 9.5 benches near perfectly to a kilocycle, the question will be it's mettle against our perceptions in the lower mids. It's a large diaphragm, you know.

One thing's for certain: we'll destroy the crap out of the mids in those last century three ways, old tech hog-tied by passive bandpass filters.

When will they be getting drivers in them?
Later in the week. There are several glue-cure operations in the way at one cycle a day. We couldn't figure out how to glue the guts in place during the first glue up because that operation was driven by the alignment of the square front edges - which absolutely must be perfectly coplanar - so we didn't want compromises with secondary issues like the situation guts. So we allowed them to just float in their housings, no glue, consequently we have to gravity flow PVA into the joints from several directions, one direction at a time. A pita, really, but so what, this ain't no production shop.

I keep having this naughty little feeling that these would make nice stands for them. Jeeze! I wish I could control myself.....it's awful, I know!

( Siegfried Linkwitz's 10" Seas four layer coil monsters x 2 + 2x500W, they're just layin' there doin' nothin' )

For a long time now, I've felt your idea of adequate bass, and my idea of adequate bass, are very different things.
