What the heck. I got nuthin.
I have my 2nd dose appointment this Friday. I wonder if I'll get cash, or chocolate pretzels, another blue mask, or maybe nuthin?

I saw the Governor of West Virginia is offering $100 savings bonds, which tells me they are having some difficulty convincing people they should get vaccinated.

I get my second Pfizer stick tomorrow afternoon. A couple guys at work just had theirs last week. One said he had no side effects at all, the other said he got quite sick two days later, but his symptoms sounded more like food poisoning than flu-like to me. Hopefully they are minimal. I will take getting nothing over getting sick.

I bought the pretzels as a reward to myself, as i was in a tiny Walgreens filled with snacks. That and the fact that the appt was in Glencoe, IL, which reminds me of all the John Hughes movies shot in our North Shore, made for a nice way to get as out of this mess as I can.
Shoulda walked across the street to Foodstuffs for the snack...

My wife and I got a night of the most evil chills I've ever experienced - no pen, no pretzel and certainly no cash...
I've been prepped/braced for #2 to be more likely to produce side effects. I'm hoping that a Friday afternoon appointment and a weekend to rest will be enough to overcome whatever might occur.

Small price to pay for 95% protection against severe illness.

Absolutely. Setting things up so you have a day off afterward is good plan, though.

I'd be more than happy to receive my 1st shot, even without any gimmicks on top. Still waiting for an appointment after registering. But if they offered me a nice new smartphone to run the tracing app more efficiently, why not?

Me? I get a few more months to wait for my first shot.
Gotta move to a different area code. Seriously - around here they're passing it out first based on area code hotspots. Canada needs never again to get caught in this position of being dependent upon other countries for production of vaccine. While attempting to avoid making a political comment...

My youngest bro got his 1st shot a week and a half ago, regardless of the fact he had Covid-19 a while back. He got sick as hell and thought he was having a heart attack. The worst headache he's ever experienced (and he used to drink pretty heavily before completely abstaining 30 years ago), fortunately the side effects only lasted 3 days. I just don't get it. Why vaccinate people who've actually had the virus? I mean, I've read the propaganda on both sides for and against, and personally I'm a big fan of vaccinations because they generally serve the greater good, but shouldn't our governing bodies be concentrating on those who haven't had the disease? 🤔🤷‍♂️

One reason for vaccinating people who've already had Covid is that apparently just having had the disease often doesn't really provide sufficient immunity and in the early days there were a lot of people becoming reinfected. As to why your brother had such a strong reaction is exactly due to his immune system being so strongly triggered, a more extreme version of why a lot of people get a more powerful reaction to the second dose. There is apparently some evidence that the combination of having had the virus and a single vaccination gives even stronger protection than the regular two doses of the vaccine would. All subject to further research, of course.

I'd posted earlier about registering for a shot at one outfit, and then a day later registered with another just to increase my chances.

The second outfit came through, and I'm two weeks past my first injection. So the other day an email comes in from the first group, first time I'd seen anything since they confirmed registration.

"Given the high demand for appointments (both online and in person), at this point we are temporarily pausing online registration and booking. In the meantime, we encourage those looking to get vaccinated to contact your local store directly to inquire about availability."

This is a result of the supply of AstraZeneca having been distributed to outlets, and the Province will have to wait until more shipments arrive. Most of it is booked, but some pharmacies may have doses available. These little outlets may get slammed by inquiries.

All this makes me glad I thought of registering with that second outfit.

That’s exactly it, your immune system is primed to take a swing at it.

I had it early on but by 9 months later I had no readily traceable antibodies, and was told by my doctor that he’d seen reinfections in people within six months of them having had a relatively mild case, and that the second instance had been worse, at least from how they felt, maybe because the body was more primed to attack it. Much of what we feel as being sick is the affects of our own immune system working. When I had it, the actual Covid part before my body figured it out, was fatigue, insane chills like I’ve never had, had a horrible dry couch and everything tasted metallic. Five days in this turned to the more expected cold/flu feeling. Sneezing, runny nose, etc. The first part felt super weird, like nothing I’d had before. The last part was my body kicking it out I guess because a week and one day after first symptoms I felt fine. The cold part lasted 3 days. My work partner who got it never got the cold/flu part but his wife did, and it was her antibody test that let us figure out our common mystery illness.
