I'm finally here?

Fantastic post, John.

I’m not there. In the grand scheme, I’m relatively and satisfyingly satiated, I am more than fairly content, and I’m finding great joy in the hobby- but I’m not quite where you are.

Yet.

However this post reminds me it’s okay. Okay to have shed the insatiable need of better, the hounding burden of constant pursuit, to have calmed from the nervous energy the existential nag of “what if” inflicts and taxes one with, it’s a good thing to have arrived at. To be aware and appreciative of the moment, to enjoy the experience at hand, and to move slowly and at leisure in any pursuit of betterment- and that, only if it rewards the efforts and allows ample room for appreciation of what is already there.

I look forward to tightening things up and shedding the remainder of wayward components but in the meantime catching gracious moments of bliss through the system as it is in its current state.

Now, tell me- what JBLs have usurped the Harbeths? That, my friend, I find intriguing…
Greetings! I’d forgotten about this thread but not the outcome. Yes, getting to my imagined “there” allowed me to relax and scale back a bit, some of that necessitated by a temporary living situation more cramped than where I was.

The JBLs are the recent L-82 Classics. They’re not better than the Harbeths, they’re just better at the one thing they don’t excel at- a sort of bouncy dynamic fun. On the whole I’d probably pick the Harbeths but I’m not sure. I’ll make that call when I have room for the Harbeths again

One of the best things is cutting loose those wayward components and combining their worth into fewer better things. That’s what I’ve been up to since the original post.

wait - are the harbeths bigger than the jbls?

"fewer better things" = a great mantra

Yes these are the smaller of the new 'classic' JBLs. 8" 2-ways like the Harbeths but the harbeths have about 8" of height on them. Either would fit here but the Harbeths would dominate the room more. My wife likes the retro Blue (or Orange, which I bought also) egg-crate grilles, they go with out space age vibe. They're great, fun, speakers. They don't image as well or completely disappear like my Harbeths but they can boogie. They really like the Luxman integrated I have them connected to. The Harbeths probably would to but I've not had them out of storage since I moved early last year.
