This is the latest production of the Prestige SR60. The drivers, headband and cord are different than the previous versions.

I wanted to try them out. So I ordered a set from the factory. The box they came in is just that, a simple box with a foam liner. Letting them play for a few days. More to follow.

It's way better than the older sets. Nice soft pad too. The braided cable is thick but, seems better to me than the previous models.

I’ve landed on Grados having tried Sennheiser, Audio Technica and one or two others over the years. Funny, I love their headphones but not a fan of their cartridges.

Congrats on the new cans.

I have an older pair in a box somewhere with a broken cord... very very nice and musical little things and exceptionally comfortable. I'd like to hear a pair of the newer ones. When it comes to higher-end headphones, I often wish I"d bought the big Grados that were sitting alongside the Audeze LCD-2s I bought instead.

Also count me in for being more a fan of the headphones than the cartridges I've heard.

I've had the HD650's paired with a Bottlehead Crack 1.1. Nice combo. I sold the set up. Why? Don't know! lol

I've had some early pairs of Grados before. They were well used when I bought them. I agree with the comfort. These are very light.

I'm using the SR60X with a Fulla II amp/dac. The combo is ok but, I'd like to try them with a better set up. Guess I'll find a HP amp to use with the Topping D30 Dac. Seems the HP's would benefit from more power at lower volumes.

Isn't buying the same stuff over and over a from of insanity? Guess I'm over the edge! LOL

I just received an amazing headphone amp. You’re welcome to swing by the office and try your phones out on it.

I just might do that! What is it?
Well, I can't go into detail about what exactly it is, since it isn't offered to the public, but what I can say is this. It's a custom build that I commissioned a year ago (and just received 3 weeks ago) that uses some interesting things, such as an LDR volume control, tubes, solid state, etc. It's quite amazing. It's reference level through and through.

I cooled my heels on the headphone quest after hearing some of the wood bodied Grado cans- the Grado RS1i series (the e series went to a slightly larger driver). Just a really enjoyable can. Oddly, they remind me of, and produce the same grin factor as my vintage AKG K240 “Sextett” cans- the only vintage cand I’ve owned personally that I felt were competitive. Both sets of cans induce joy and happiness, and that’s a big deal.
Now, if I want effortless neutrality, scalpel-like detail delineation and the mind-twisting illusion of space and soundstage I reach for the AKG K712 or AKG Q701- their cool collected presentation excels at this stuff.

But if I’m just liking for a good time, the endorphin inducing Grado RS1 are the go-to cans.

Headphone amps vary between a Headroom Maxxed Out and a few Meier Corda offerings (all have crossfeed features), a nifty Teac (with control over dampening levels), or a Woo Audio WA-6 tube unit.

I hope my post wasn’t off-subject too much- I remembered this was the “doorway” section of the forum. My intention was to highlight the Grado headphones in general- just really good cans for the enjoyment of music.

I had used the 60s, 80s and 125s prior, and rebuilt the 60s with custom pads and headband for my brother in law who
is still loving them. The 80s and 125s were still around until recently, also getting a rebuild, and now off to a pair of friends.

Oh- and customer support with Grado has been great.

The Q701s have the added benefit of looking like the headphones a imperial stormtrooper would wear, if they’re like mine.

Very nice! I too am curious as to how they sound. I had a pair of SR60’s once, and they sounded nice, but perhaps a bit too forward in the mids for my taste. I later put some wood cups and Sennheiser 414 pads on them and gave them to a friend, as I didn’t use them enough.

My go-to headphones for many years have been the HD650’s. I also have a pair of LCD-3’s, which I have somewhat of a love-hate relationship with. Earlier this year, I got a pair of Dan Clark Aeon 2 Closed, which have really been enjoying.

We don't do on or off topic really. The conversation just meanders along however it wants.

Ok. A few thoughts on the SR60X. They have opened up after a few days of constant play. They require less volume to sound good now. The Fulla is more than enough drive for them. I still want to try a better amp. I'm using Tidal/Fulla-DAC/Jitterbug. Here's a few pros and cons so far.
Pros:
Light weight
very comfortable
Sound quality is good. (I'm coming back to open from closed back. Takes a bit of getting used to.)
Cable is sturdy. Doesn't tangle yet.

Cons:
Cable seems somewhat heavy
Recordings that are good are really great. Poor or substandard stuff is not so. lol

I like them so far. I need to do a late night session when it's very quiet.

Thanks for posting your impressions. I have the SR-80e, and I agree - they are quite honest when presenting rough recordings!

I was very bored today so I sat at my desktop and searched for stuff. I spent about 4hrs. listening with the Grados . They really have opened up. Never really paid attention to them before. I didn't get fatiqued. Quite pleasant. Also discovered new music listening to Radio Paradise. There is a bunch of material that sounds great on the 60X.
