To that point, it's true that it's now endemic. We AREN'T getting rid of this thing, which has been clear for quite some time. We have to learn to live with it.

There is actually pretty much 100% consensus among infectious disease doctors that the vaccines are safer and more effective against COVID than not getting the vaccine. Seems pretty cut and dried to me.
Here's something that may end up being another tool in the tool kit against Covid:

With the Delta variant driving a surge in COVID-19 infections, health officials warn the threat of the contagious variant is ‘serious’ as infected patients crowd hospital beds in hard-hit regions.
"As it stands now, Florida and Texas account for about a third of new cases across the country. Texas recorded more than 15,000 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, its highest one-day total in six months, according to state data. Meanwhile, the Florida Hospital Association reported more than 17,000 new COVID-19 cases in the state and 11,515 COVID-19 patients hospitalized as of Wednesday, with 86% of inpatient ICU beds in use.
But it’s not just Florida and Texas that are seeing a rapid rise in cases fueled by the Delta Variant. States including Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Oklahoma and South Carolina have seen confirmed COVID-19 cases jump more than 100% in the past two weeks."
"As an emergency room physician who continues to take care of patients on a daily basis who are testing positive for COVID… this is a real threat,” Clayborne added. “Reach out to those members of your family or their friend circles who have not been vaccinated and encourage them to rethink that because it is very risky.”
I trust doctors/science, not stooopid politicians.
And here's a bit of a counterpoint to that. The Delta threat is a threat to the unvaccinated. Go get vaccinated, and it becomes less of a threat to you than the seasonal flu, and we can all just get on with our lives. It's true... to the vaccinated person, the threat from this thing is nothing more than what we have all faced, without much thought, throughout our lives. Those are the numbers. That is the -science-. Yes, some vaccinated people will get sick, a very few might get really sick. But its statistically less dangerous to the vaccinated than a typical flu season is for the average healthy or moderately healthy person. You want to get on with your life? Get the vaccine and turn off the hyperbolic news channels.
As for the Providencetown case that was in that CDC report. I was a VERY UNIQUE set of circumstances. It was a Pride celebration where tens of thousands of people crammed into a town and crowded their clubs and danced all night and all day and all night again while rain drove much of the city-wide party indoors where lots of closeness was had by many thousands of people for hours upon hours at a time. Was that widely reported? NOPE. It was widely reported as some common everyday happening.

I think I'm going to have to unwacth this thread for awhile.
Rant removed. I'm just mad as hell, and I can't take it anymore. So it's best I remove myself than put up a comment that vilifies certain individuals and a certain political party. I just don't see how to disconnect that from conversations about Covid anymore.

I need to join you @JoeThePop. Watching the squandering of our one weapon and other mitigation attempts is literally heartbreaking.

I guess the thing right now that has me really perplexed and frankly pissed off to a large extent is why are our US borders to the south so wide open to refugee migrants? Just about every other country has pretty strict border requirements right now. But more importantly there is the new Lambda variant in central and south America which could be coming thru those borders daily. This administration has some real issues starting at the top 2. I will handle my own covid protocols with my doctor so they can stay the hell out of it. But they need to do what they should be doing and one is protecting us at our borders.
No vaccine for this cat or most of my kids!! My wife decided to get it and one of my kids did also!! Interesting, my one kid who did get the shots-her boyfriend and his brother who are all fully vaccinated, got COVID…. Go figure, eh!! I’m semi retired and work as a school bus driver so I’m basically on a driving Petri dish, no issues thus far!! Anyway, I respect all choices. Stay safe y’all!!

This emphasis on breakthrough cases in the media is asinine. The point of the vaccine is not that you can’t get a lower level infection. It’s that you’re not going to die from it. if you’re not vaccinated you’re playing Russian roulette with a six chamber revolver instead of one with 1000 chambers.
Its been found that some (very few) people simply do not get Covid. A country doctor in the Winelands district of our province who ran a very busy country clinic where the "R" rate was over 4 for some time found his entire staff of 14 all got sick, as did the several delivery drivers who delivered medicine 2 or 3 times a week, but he never did. 2 of the 14 subsequently died of lung complications. Some staff got it twice

Good to hear your 3rd wave is ending. Germany displays clear signs of a beginning 4th wave, although 55 % of the population being fully vaccinated. Comparing 2020 and 2021 shows an alarming image:
At the moment, there are more doses available in Germany than people willing to take them. My personal estimation is that around 10 to 15% of German adults are 'hard' anti-vaccers of some kind. We somehow have to get the lethargic and undecided ones. Politics is discussing now to distinguish between vaccinated and non-vaccinated for future COVID countermeasures. A very controversial topic over here, but I really hope they will find a solution that sends a clear message and a noticable impulse to those sluggish 30%.
When I had it (very early on it turns out- didn't find out until months later) my wife slept beside me for the last 2 of the 8 days I felt sick. I was in a different city for the first part of it then travelled- this was the week it first arrived in the US, I had no idea it was even possible to get it and it just felt like a very strange cold or flu with a horrible dry cough. Anyway, she didn't get sick- maybe its mostly communicable the first few days? Or before symptoms? I don't even know if they know yet, or if there's any consistency. It was clear now, looking back on it, my body was super confused the first five days of it, trying random things to counter it, then towards the end its like my immune system figured itself out and did a massive invasion to push the bastard out in two days.
We've lived our lives pretty normally for the last 8 months and she hasn't gotten sick and I didn't get sick again- we got vaccinated in April, but its not like we were the most careful people before that. We decided to live aware of it but not like hermits.
I hope the wave continues to wane in South Africa- lovely country but I know there's areas of extreme population density in the poorest areas, which seems like a good place for it to fester.
I will start this out by saying I have not gotten the vaccine as of yet. The last time I felt sick was for the first 6 weeks or so of 2020. Covid type symptoms but at that time it wasn't a thing to be a thing to point at. My dad brought whatever it was to us for the holidays from CA. He got sick Xmas night and me New Years eve.
Similar to John we have for the most part lived a normal existence with some logical precautions like masks when it was required or when there was more going around middle of last year, wash hands, don't touch face, stay away from indoor or high density events etc. Vacationed, traveled for business, vacationed again most recently to Hawaii. I work from home so that helped. The wife moved their operations home as well for most of last year but has been back in the office downtown Boise since the 1st of the year. Kids came home late in the school year April 2020 but were back in the classroom 2-days a week this last school year and the schools had no blooms. They even went back to full time school for the last couple months of this past year. A couple small outbreaks but all were traced back to other activities outside the school. One of our best friends runs the medical/nursing side of a school district here and they were absolutely on this thing at the schools. while for the most parts kids just brushed off the original Covid Sars virus, it appears Delta seems to get the kids this time so we shall see about that.
As important as the vaccine is, right now I think an understanding of where we are with therapeutics is the key. More info needs to be provided on what doctors are doing and not. What I don't want is a company/corporate line or directive coming from the large health care providers that are based on a CYA stance from the lawyers and board of directors etc of these large organizations. They shouldn't be reliant on the vaccine.

I just heard news that Canada is opening their borders to tourist, woohoo! (I think..)
I would like to think that by now, most who have decided to not get the shot are doing so due to their own research and/or beliefs/convictions (and not being mislead). Without sounding cold; if one of these persons does get sick or passes away, it’s on their own head. The part that does get me, is that they are taking hospital beds from others who are actually trying not to die. Strange times we live in.
