SW1X DAC

Cons:
-Still a little bit of sibilance, no matter which DAC I've listened to, it just doesn't seem to get rid of sibilance, but this one has the least of it that I've heard. This is regardless of it being Redbook, High Res, old or new recordings, although I will say recordings like Muddy Waters: My Captain have less sibilance than something that is new and has been digitally mastered.
I don't think the sibilance is due to the DAC. What are you using for a digital cable? I do have an Abbas SPDIF cable and you and Steven are welcome to try it. I'm using a Blue Jeans SPDIF and prefer it to the Abbas with the Audial DAC. IMHO, it's very good and inexpensive.
I also have an Analysis Plus solo crystal copper digital cable, $290 retail, but my ears like the BJ wire. You guys can try that too.

Thanks for the offer. I used a BJC cable and preferred my custom cables from the guy who modded my Nakamichi

I have an Abbas Spdif that I'm using. I'll spend the $30 and get a blue jean one to see if I notice a difference. I'm not a huge believer in the cable differences, as I've yet to experience a true difference, but $30 is a very low barrier to entry.

@Limberpine what kind of room are you in and do you have any treatments? If you’re consistently having an issue with sibilance across different gear I’m inclined to say that changing a cable probably isn’t going to make the kind of difference you’re hoping for.

Trying different cables until you find one that covers up the sibilance may result in covering up other aspects of the music as well. Might be a double edged sword kind of thing.

Could it possibly be just an artifact of your speakers or reflections in the room?

Here is a picture of my room.

I built 4" sound treatments for the wall behind my seating, and one on another wall in an area adject to the room since my room is a little "L" shaped. I also built 7" bass traps that sit back behind the speakers which are hard to see.

I'm going to build some diffusers here in a couple months to put on the long wall and on the the wall behind my speakers.

This is all based on some modeling I had GIK acoustics do of the room and what kind of treatments I should place where.

If you're hearing sibilance at low/moderate volume, I doubt it's your room, although treating a room will have lots of beneficial results.

I also doubt it's the cables.

Do you have access to your crossover? A picture would be cool.

This recording is my go to sibilance detector... incredible medieval music recorded exquisitely in Collegiale Du Chateau De Cardona a 1000 year old Chateau in Catalonia. .

Oh and I forgot the the whole wall behind the chairs is also filled with rockwool.
Did you get the Abbas USB -> SPDIF converter to work with the RPi 4B using the Moode settings I suggested?

Also, I asked what source you were listening to because if you were dialing up hi-res tracks on Qobuz and directing them to a 16/44.1 DAC, thats why they weren't playing and/or thats where the Moode settings for SoX resampling would be necessary, however if just playing native 16/44.1 tracks then no resampling via SoX should be necessary.

I’m normally listening at 65-75db. Which is about 10-11 o clock on my preamp volume knob. I’ll give the recording a try.

You just want a pic of the crossovers in my speakers?

I haven’t had time to get into the settings yet and poke around. We have been crazy busy this weekend, with hiking, snowshoeing, friends and then pre Valentine’s Day, cause actual Valentine’s Day is a s$&!show out in the world. 🤣

Regarding the XO picture... Just curious what "parts" are in there. Some are more visible than others, so, hoping not too much of a hassle.

Make sure all you drivers are seeded to their horns properly. Screwed down tight etc..

I'm running a pair of 1978 La Scalas with stock AA networks.

Its not a hassle at all to take photos.

Here is the crossover.
The AA crossover has a tweeter protection circuit. PWK added it because high-power SS amps were blowing the tweeters. The A crossover doesn't. Years ago, I had the same year model speakers and rebuilt the crossovers and replaced the wiring.

Link to a search of A vs AA xovers. You may want to post/search on the Klipsch forum.
