Today's Folk/Americana

No thread on folk/Americana can get too far without a mention of Canada's premier roots label, Stony Plain. If you're not familiar, a good place to start is "30 Years Stony Plain", a 2-CD set (with a DVD!) with Ian Tyson, Doug Sahm, Duke Robillard, Maria Muldaur, King Biscuit Boy and lots more. A must in any collection.

Happy trails,
Larry B.
It's on Amazon HD as well as Stony Plain 35 & 40 years.

I was listening to Daniel Lanois Acadie tonight and noticed that there is only one version listed in roon, my CD rip.

Does anyone see this recording on the streaming services?

Interesting, nothing on the US Tidal or Qobuz.
Must be something to do with the original release being on Opal Records, and somehow there is a streaming license agreement between Opal Records and Tidal for the Canadian market, but not the U.S. market.

Subsequent Lanois albums were Warner Music releases which are licensed in the U.S. market, but apparently Opal Records has no such deal, or maybe at one time did and it wasn't renewed for one reason or another.

The plot thickens just a bit in that there were two reissues of Acadie on CD, first in 2005 and again in 2008, and while I believe I have both, I can only lay hands quickly on the latter (I know I do not have the original 1989 Opal Records CD which is the album art in your Roon screenshot).

The 2008 "Goldtop Edition" reissue makes absolutely no mention of either Opal Records, or Warner Music, and was manufactured and distributed by Universal Music Canada on behalf of Fontana North for Red Floor Records. So the 2008 CD reissue is not a U.S. release, that was a Canadian import.

I don't know who Fontana North or Red Floor Records is, but it appears Lanois had regained some control and copyright ownership of this album and likely his entire catalog as of that reissue because it contains the following liner note:

For licensing or use of Daniel Lanois' music contact Margaret Marissen (MJM65 at Mac dot com)
