Havenfest 2023? A Show of Hands

No clue. I've only had one Chicago-style hotdog in my life at Lipuma's in Rochester. The fact that I don't remember if I liked it, and I have never had another, would suggest that I didn't think much of it.
Hmmmmm.
You know, @JohnVF might have sent me on a fools errand again. He did promise me once that it was possible to have good tasting Brussels sprouts too, and I've yet to find any evidence of that.

My thought on a Chicago Style Dog. If you need to cover it up with that you should find a better tasting dog. Personally I like a Koegle Vienna with natural skin. fresh bun, a bit of mustard and onion.

Have come up with a comfort bowl that I don't do too often, but is pretty awesome. Some fresh cut French fries done in the air fryer. Ladle of my famous brisket chili over the fries. 1 diced of the above mentioned Vienna, some chopped onion, bit of mustard and some shredded cheddar.

But if you’re in Detroit don’t you have to do the Detroit style chili dog? Which is just a coney dog? @prime minister …didn’t we have those at a diner your first visit?

And don't let that little rat problem last fall scare you away from Lafayette. You know what they say about the best time to go to a restaurant - go shortly after they reopen after the health department shut them down.

I've never loved Coney type dogs. Even the best (Lafayette's) seem to use a pretty tasteless skinny dog and thin just OK chili. Now, give me a fat Hebrew National frankfurter with melted cheese, onions and a little mustard and I'm in heaven.

Best ones I've had were the ones my dad grew when I was a kidlet. The small ones on top of the stalk were not bitter at all (they were progressively larger in size the further down the stalk they grew). The larger ones are too bitter for me and that seems to be all that anyone ever serves--I similarly do not like those.

BTW, several of us SMACers/AKFesters in the area have discussed trying to do a HiFi Fest in this area, but it never grew wings.
Silly Olson. Hifi Fests can't fly!

I actually prefer the loose burgers--those dogs never did anything for me either. I've had decent chili at a few places like Leo's or National, and have bought frozen National chili for a treat here every so often. (For those not familiar, our "Coney" chili is a meat-based Greek-style chili, not the familiar "five-alarm" variety with beans and meat.) Brings back memories of my mother taking me to Macomb Mall as a kidlet, and eating at the Lafayette inside the mall.

While I’d love to go and see you fine folks, it’s just not going to work….. mama is being deployed June 15 so I’m the only parent home!! Hope you guys have a blast!!!

We also went to Monty’s Grill one morning.

LMAO, the place outside the motel that looks like it has hourly rates? That place cracks me up whenever I drive by it...
