Got my McIntosh C32 back from AudioClassics...

... and it sounds great!

I wanted to check it out since I have had it for almost a week but I have been too busy. First I was preoccupied with the return of the Fairchilds, and then I went camping all weekend.

Tonight when I got done with post-camping to-do’s I opened the C32 and put together the system below using:

Bluesound Node2i > C32 > Dennis Had Inspire SE Hotrod running Svetlana Winged-C 6550’s good for about 7Wpc > Altec 614/414/288C/N3000/EminenceHorn.

It sounds damn good. This whole setup does! I’ll comment more when I have some more time. But damn... nice! I was impressed with AudioClassics. Smooth process and fast turn. The preamp looks and sounds great.

Looks great. Can you share which Eminence Horn you used and what adapter for the 288s?

Eminence H2EA. The adapter is the one that was on my Jabo's... I might order up the Eminence adapter cause it looks made to mate to these horns. Not that the machined one I'm using seems bad in any way.

Woah, Dude! Can I come live with you? Beautiful space and set-up and I don’t even like horns. I think the first two floors of our house could fit into your living room.

What work did they do on the C32? I’d like to get mine tuned-up, along with my MC2125, but I’m paranoid about shipping, especially shipping the MC2125. (Actually, I’m paranoid about most things.)

No. But you can visit anytime.

If you're going to send Mac gear to anyone, I 100% recommend getting the boxes made by Audio Classics ahead of time. They include everything including the bolts to mount them to the plywood base. They are kinda little works of art. Double boxing etc... I have one for my MC2205's as well. I might get a 2nd and freight them out there together.

Here's some of the return paperwork on the C32 so you can see what they did.

Vestal, NY! Woohoo! They’re within driving distance. Great. Thanks for the invoices and info. Very helpful!

Lucky you. That's how I feel about Great Plains Audio only being 2hrs and change away from me. And my Altec addiction.

That price is really good. $62/hr for technician time is a steal. Paying around $600 for a refurb of something this complex is quite reasonable.

Not to mention they turned it around in about 3 weeks. Good luck finding very many (good) techs that can do that. I'm super pleased and I can't wait to send my pair of 2205s to them.

Many moons ago I lived in NY's Hudson valley and made a pilgrimage to McIntosh in Binghamton and Audio Classics in Vestal. It was a blast and I'd recommend both to anyone near those places. It took me 2 1/2 or 3 hours each way but it was worth the drive.
