    Push Pull 2A3

And learning something foreign to me was enjoyable. You can run the free Community Edition, which has a reduced toolset, but certainly enough for what you might need to do. Feel free to PM me if you’d like to chat more about the tool etc.

    Push Pull 2A3

You might want to take the time to learn a more flexible CAD tool. I use QCAD and I think that is what Paul uses too. It is 2D (what we need for panels etc.), doesn’t take long to learn the tools you will use most, and it has a good manual/tutorial. I’m still learning how to use it more...

How good is the Tamura TamRadio iron?

Easily confused. We could think of it as "if speakers R is higher, primary load is higher."

How good is the Tamura TamRadio iron?

The primary load your tube “sees” will be 10k. If your speakers are nominally 2x your taps, the primary impedance will also be nominally doubled.

Thanks Dan and Paul. I'll prepare for carnage, even if it never happens.

    General DIY Questions/Answers

Question regarding noise blocking networks (between 0V singnal and chassis). I know these have been discussed but I'm finding it difficult to locate specifics, so asking here. These networks comprise 100 - 470nF capacitor, a 5W 10R resistor and diodes back-to-back (or a bridge). My question is...

    General DIY Questions/Answers

Well, I reckon I’d probably prefer the Summit over their amorphous. YMMV. And the Summits represent the peak of their capability using hi-b core material, which I suspect is their strength. We really are talking very high quality transformers here.

    General DIY Questions/Answers

Remembering that English is not their first language, they over-egged the description for me too. However, that is just their way of delivering an intended message - it certainly doesn't convince to buy them, but I wouldn't discount them on the basis of that. Many of their designs are well...

    General DIY Questions/Answers

I’m not surprised Paul. J&K Audio (who I use) apply different mathematical models, winding techniques, core size etc. for roughly equivalent transformers in different core types. Their nanocrystalline cores are larger for similar ”on paper” performance... and then I choose the oversized core...

    General DIY Questions/Answers

Disclaimer: my direct experience is limited, as it will be for most DIYers. I’ve had a few discussions with winders and read a bit regarding this very question, without deliving into the science and engineering. If it were me, I’d stick with the better hi-b types (like the Summit series) or...

π4 speaker builds here for testing

I considered those before going the GPA Duplex route... it was close. The thing that swayed me was the reputation of the JBL drivers liking a bit of juice to "come alive". Their Qms - suggestive of mechanical losses - is about the minimum I'd think is almost okay for lower-level...

    Shindo”ish” style cabinets

Very nice looking cabinets! And yet for some very experienced GPA 604-8H-III users, who have tried a wide range of crossovers, the Rick Craig crossovers consistently come out at the top of the heap. I can't recall anyone who has implemented them preferring a different crossover design, but...

    5K Tape Machine OTs Tested

Thanks Paul. Technical reasons then. Agreed regarding the driver (and a decent interstage); not insurmountable, but a perhaps costly challenge. Thanks mate. I hope that is the case. If not, well, I will try something different. 😊 I need to get it done.

    5K Tape Machine OTs Tested

I’m only in the early stages of putting together an interstage coupled amplifier. No fervour here, just curiosity... wanting to learn through doing, when I have the chance. Some experienced builders prefer interstages so I’m willing to give it a good chance. Do you still consider interstages...

    5K Tape Machine OTs Tested

Never heard them. On paper, the 20W units look much better than the 7W. But really, for those prices there are some rather fine transformers available. A bit off topic: One day I might try their the better interstage, apparently their answer to the NC-20 types... and I’d like to compare those...

How good is the Tamura TamRadio iron?

Based on Pauls’s tests, 2.8W at 1kHz, 10% distortion. Well suited to an inexpensive and nice sounding 45 amplifier.

Lovely work Paul. I think I've said this before: I'm impressed by how neat, yet compact, your builds are. Great stuff.
