    Today's Folk/Americana

The Good Doctor was born, raised, lived and died in The Big Easy. So, yeah. Next question: Are Ian & Sylvia Americana? How about Bruce Cockburn? Buffy Ste.-Marie? Isn't Canada part of North America?

Some say that I am "ate up" with 45 singles...

According to the article, there's no such thing as browsing there. Most of his business is via the internet, the store has no sign, if you show up in person you have to know what you want, and his motto is "five minutes and you're gone". Not exactly Tower Records. And his prices...

For a different sound profile from the OC9, how about a Dynavector? Not saying better, just different.

Conical Stylus for mono rekkids- suggestions please

Depends on the life it's had. 1 mil for baseline, but if ML works, then go for it. I just think styrene 45s are a waste of plastic, though if that's what there is, then that's what it is. I'd love to know how many pennies they saved using styrene - that, and printing the label right on the...

Conical Stylus for mono rekkids- suggestions please

.7 Mil is fine for vinyl 45s, but dangerous on styrene. I've had loads of experience with both, having grown up with many of both. All ex-jukebox copies (my dad was in the coin machine biz). I've ruined styrene 45s with a single play on a .7 mil stylus.

    Backyard birdies

And it was Chuck who created the radio-friendly non-expletive "Go to war Miss Agnes!" Joe: Ernie Harwell did a stint in Balamer for the Orioles, too. One of the greats, no argument. We now return you to our regularly scheduled birdies...

Vintage full range drivers - which of these would you pick?

Can't imagine the 12TRXB would be a valid competitor against 604s, but who knows? Might be an interesting change. You know....like driving the MG Midget while the Ferrari's in the shop.

Vintage full range drivers - which of these would you pick?

I'm not quite sure what your criterion is for "full range driver". To me that means something like a Lowther, or a single speaker (with or without a "whizzer" cone. Many of the speakers listed don't fit that list. Anyway....I'd go for the 12TRXB, just through personal experience. Many folks...

    I wonder about stuff

I suspect we're boring non-native Baltimorons, so I'll close with these tidbits: Mt sister worked as a secretary at the Calvert Distillery for several years. The plant still exists in the same location (Washington Blvd, Rt.1, AKA "Death Alley") but now produces industrial alcohol. My fondest...

    I wonder about stuff

A combination of steamed crabs, diesel fuel and whatever that smell was from the Domino Sugar plant? And the bad old days of rotting everything before they cleaned up the Harbor!

    I wonder about stuff

I always knew there was another person whose brain worked like mine. I blame it on the air wafting up from Baltimore's Inner Harbor.:Bow

    Cassettes, again: Nakamichi LX-5

Better hurry. I have a TA-R301 with some problems, paid $24 for it four years ago, now they're hovering around the $100 mark. I also picked up a TA-R410 for about the same price (seller was local, so no shipping!) Put it into service when my Nak started acting up; seems to be fine.

    EPI Speakers

My restored 100W's still going strong in the bedroom...could use some Howard's if I wasn't so lazy.

the 70s called and wants its console back

I'll go out on a limb and paraphrase Meatloaf: There ain't no 604Es hidin' inside this box. More likely something with stamped frames, half ounce magnet and a whizzer cone. But hey, I could be wrong...:chin

Good quality, Unfancy Speaker Cable ?

Four years and seven pages, and no one mentioned Audioquest Type 4? Jeez, I must be obsolete. Or is it NLA?
