The Secret Santa Project is finalized, launched and active. Now, curious people want to know: What kind of cool things are going here and there? Post your cool surprises here:
I decided to keep the Sennheisers and let go of a couple of favorites. I'm a headphone junkie, or at least I used to be. I decided to diversify my headphone collection rather than having one expensive pair, but I've really slowed down my usage and find myself grabbing the Sennheiser HD600's most...
They’re going to ruin this hobby. Sad. I don’t think many of us make a living doing this. It’s a hobby that allows us to safely play with things that can push our budgets. So bummed about this silly move. Anyway…
I recently purchased a big Parasound amp that got damaged. I sent the funds F&F...
I appreciate this story. Sorry it happened to you.
Out of curiosity, do you all know if we actually have to pay taxes on sales over $600? I thought they paused that.
I have not researched that amp. And I haven’t even owned the Topping. I use the Zen DAC V2 though and I think it’s great. It does everything I need, but I wish I would have tried the Topping. I suspect it might be a better value.
I haven’t heard from Glenn in quite a while. Would love to hear from him again. If he was still taking on work, I would find a vintage piece to send him and keep it this time, damnit! I’d love to have my old Accuphase stack back.
That Kenwood Supreme would work.
If you stretched your budget a little you can do great things.
I would find a nice headphone amp/dac with an optical input and buy a $90 Wiim Mini. The Bluetooth works great and you’ll have the added benefit of a WiFi streamer should you want to use it! You can do Tidal or Spotify Connect...
Sad. I love David Lindley by himself or with Jackson Browne. Saw him open for Jackson and then join him on stage during his set. He was an incredible player with a great sense of humor.
I have a nice pair of Sundara headphones that I don’t get to use enough. They stay with my big system for when I need to be quiet. When I could use them most and would enjoy them most is at my desk. I need a cheap little set up there.
I almost snagged an iFi Zen DAC V2, but then I thought I’d...
This DAC is magical. Don’t fall for the ASR garbage. Vocals are so life-like and huge. I prefer the sound of this to my Benchmark in my Luxman/Harbeth system, but I am looking to try an R2R DAC.
This one had developed a noisy right channel. They replaced the main board. It’s in perfect shape...
I don’t think the dedicated circuits did much, but the stable power seems like it did. I was getting 10 volt swings. There has to be a sonic improvement, whether I notice it or not.
QoL is definitely better. Does that make my stereo sound better? Definitely.
I love the deep curiosity.
There are two “Theys”.
Fusion Electric, a residential electric company, discovered that the incoming power was bad. “They” ran the dedicated circuits to my stereos.
The other “They” was Evergy. “They” found the issue in the line and replaced it, which cost me nothing.
I purchased this brand new from Benchmark on 3/8/21. I posted this thread the day I hooked it up:
https://hifihaven.org/index.php?threads/new-benchmark-dac3-and-a-temporary-system-to-hold-me-over.7242/
It's in excellent condition, as it's a set-it-and-forget-it piece and has never really been...
