    Plastic.... not so much plastic.

good or better sounding “black plastic crap” (BPC)

The same happened with cameras. Anything chrome was considered to be "amateur" and passé. Now the chrome stuff is slowly coming back. In all honesty it ages a whole lot better in something handled as much as a camera.

I would still buy one of those if it showed up for the right price, just on principle. They were a really classy piece and made great use of trickle down from the top Yamaha tech of the time. B it was, but C and P it was not. I have a few black-face pieces, but none of the fall into the P or C...

Any difference between Ortofon OM and SuperOM carts sonically?

Good question. The only Ortofons I've ever run have been MC.

Hang in there - that doesn't sound like fun at all. As to the cart - break-in can be a very real thing. My Benz Gold took about 60-80 hours to settle into itself after the re-tip. At first I thought it was a going to be a pile o' poo. Now it is quite lovely.

Why O Why .... Big Speakers

I really, really like that dream. We've gone for a similar vibe (such as we could manage) in my wife's art supply shop, the Beatnik. Dig up some recordings of Beat poets doing readings (with jazz in the background) while you're at it. There are a few super ones out there.

Getting the world's finest console turntable back up and running...

How I feel about my DP-80 and yes, I've been guilty of way too much hyperbole myself. Mea culpa. Leaps and bounds above any other table I've owned. The big DD drives just get the job done with no fuss.

You know what would have been awesome?

That one pisses me off above all of the rest. Ever so gently opening a clip just enough that it will fit over that bigger pin with a round toothpick and even then the metal is so fragile it cracks. Of course this only happens when they are the last set of shell leads in the house. I finally...

Rega Planar 8 - First Impressions

One of the struggles in running all tube gear (as I do) is avoiding that "euphonic bliss" and still retain that sense of easy naturalness that tubes seem to me to be able to give. That and avoiding any sense of muddiness. I think that with good SS the juggling act is probably a bit easier to...

My Audiocraft does the same and finding it was a definitely welcome aspect. I can't say as I noticed it immediately, though!

Rega Planar 8 - First Impressions

They key is managing to keep enough of that detail that the experience remains "real" without killing the musical "golden goose" in the process. I'm sure that with the Rega you won't be lacking any detail so that isn't an issue nor is the rest of the chain (such as I know it) likely to fail on...

    Fidelity Research FR-24 MK2 mounting

Huh. Mine does. I also rigged a secondary ground coupled with the one from the TD-125 itself.

    Fidelity Research FR-24 MK2 mounting

Mine is actually rounded and has full sides to it, typical 60s shell style. I'd have to dig out the box and take a pic. Yours is far newer.
