The utility of Vintage Glass and the Challenge of Zooms

I think at this point the crop sensor is a non issue if you shoot with the glass made for the camera and aren’t shooting for outdoor billboards. I’d put the resolution of my X-100v up against most any fulll frame DSLR that’s more than 5 years old. Alejandra has used it on professional shoots...

The utility of Vintage Glass and the Challenge of Zooms

I think some of that is also who you talk to. I have the number for the Fuji rep here and he took care of the camera once and said he would again. The current problem is annoying but hasn't totally disabled the camera so I haven't taken him up on it. Though I have thought of trading it in on...

    Nice photos of audio gear.

What's happening to me? I look at that room and all I can think about is what I'd do with it without all that clutter and one really good pair of speakers.

The utility of Vintage Glass and the Challenge of Zooms

I'm tempted to get a full-frame body, probably Sony, to use exclusively with adapted old lenses. And what might push me over that edge is I've learned that I can adapt my Contax G lenses now. Among the best glass ever made for 35mm. The Xpro-2 has really bummed me out because it's the only time...

That gigantic user base, I'm sure, also has advantages when they're trying to figure out trends, common tastes, etc. I've often complained about how bad Tidal was at offering me up suggestions for what it thought I'd like, but it also has a much smaller pool of people to learn from (as well as...

Its very odd. I was searching for a Walker Brothers song this morning and first I just searched for Walker Brothers, which led to somebody else. Just searching for Walker worked, though. I don't understand how Spotify is the only service to figure out user interface, especially search including...

I’m really enjoying the quality of sound. What the catalogue is currently lacking is made up for by how the high resolution tracks sound. My wife for whatever reason wanted to listen to Burt Bacharach this morning, because we’re stuck in sixties lounge life, and the album “Reach Out” is there in...

    The Callout by GoldenSound

And from a legal standpoint if what they were using to question MQA was significantly off the mark I would think they could force them to take it down, as its public facing on the website of a competitor. I'm glad this thread popped up as I had been a bit agnostic about MQA after initially...

The utility of Vintage Glass and the Challenge of Zooms

My wife has a Canon 5DmkIV that I occasionally use but I just can't get used to shooting with it, too many menus, too many buttons. The reason I went Fuji is that it feels like a film camera to me. Everything where it should be, lenses with aperture rings, etc. So putting old manual glass on one...

    The Covid-19 thread.

My brother-in-law isn't that bad. He's not into Q-anon or really any conspiracies about anything, he's just one of those "I've never travelled outside of the three zip codes around my own but I happen to know that I know absolutely everything about everywhere and everybody" kind of people. And...

Acknowledging the issues is a big part of solving them, good that you've found a place that does. My experience growing up in the church I grew up in kind of pushed me into agnosticism and now, at 47, I feel like I'm missing something. On the vaccine front, my wife just got back and said it...

    The Covid-19 thread.

I grew up in a very fundamentalist evangelical Baptist church that, shall I say, kind of soured me on the sincerity of a lot of teachings. Which isn't to say that I have anything against religion. But there's a particular flavor of it that makes me have to almost bite my tongue clean off to not...

    The Covid-19 thread.

Here in Chicago its mostly the minority communities that are skeptical. A cultural distrust of people telling them something will be fine - I get it. But its unfortunate. The only person in my family who won't get it is also the only person in my family who is really into a certain tangerine...

    The Covid-19 thread.

There was certainly no making-up the arm pain I had from the first shot, but it wasn't debilitating. My wife acted like she'd gotten a gunshot to her arm and I had to lift everything for her for a day. Milkin' it.

The utility of Vintage Glass and the Challenge of Zooms

Cool stuff. I've had hit and miss luck with the variety of vintage lenses I've adapted to my Fuji cameras (XE-1 then Xpro-2). The first problem is the crop sensor - everything gets a bit to quite a bit more telephoto with the crop. But I also will lose some of the vignetting on very old lenses...

Perhaps. But most of them had the same experience. They felt great after getting the shot then a few hours later "it hit like a ton of bricks" then a day later they felt even better than before the shot. Who knows?

That's good. I saw a bunch of friends complaining about being down 24-36 hours from their 2nd dose, and they're most my age (mid 40s). I had the Moderna shot - holding out for a similar experience next wednesday.

    The Callout by GoldenSound

I am, too, just as I'm apt to turn on and question somebody who is selling me something -they own and profit from- that is in direct competition to something that is open and available to all, especially when most people are very happy with it. Again, I never had any problem with MQA until it...

    The Callout by GoldenSound

I'm starting to hate MQA even more now because it gets me into discussions like this. I want to be a part of a relaxing hobby, not a debate team. And I blame MQA for making something so opaque, so 'mysterious', and sold in such a way that it is like some magic bullet to correct something other...

    The Covid-19 thread.

My wife is out to get her 2nd pfizer today. There seems to be more of the vaccine around here now - her first dose was about 2 1/2 hours away, this is 50 minutes away and she had no problem scheduling it yesterday to replace her original far away 2nd dose. Back when she got the first dose, you...
