Speaker Cables, Trying a Few Things

Well, I hope you guys are proud of yourselves. You've managed to lead yet another wide-eyed innocent down the garden path, no, make that two garden paths. 25ft. of Belden 9497 and 50ft. of 12ga. mil-spec are now heading my way. I swear, threads like this one should really come with a trigger...

    The Covid-19 thread.

Ain't that the truth? There's one county in NM with the highest percentage of people registered for the vaccine in the state. The disparity between this county and the counties with the lowest rates is on the order of 60 percentage points. This county also has one of the highest percentages...

    Is Decware worth the investment

When your only evidence of sanity is a disinclination to spend $4000 on one specific amp I don't think you get to pat yourself on the back too much. So, no worries, ding-dong, hey-ho, nobody's unlocking the exit door out of the loony bin for me just yet. Well, you are a doctor of something or...

    Is Decware worth the investment

While I have no doubt you knew exactly what you were doing when you changed caps some owners might not have the first clue and end up just mucking things up. That, I would guess, would be the reason for this policy, one I suspect is shared by lots of manufacturers. There's no question, though...

    Is Decware worth the investment

A few observations from a casual Decware observer (and owner, but not of this amp): 1. Decware amps come with a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser. 2. They hold their value far better than most. 3. They're easy to resell. None of these are be all/end all, obviously, but they are...

Tannoy Canterbury Corners, a love story.

I'm really intrigued by these cabinets, I hope you won't mind a few questions: Would these originally have had legs? Is the Tygan something Tannoy did or a later recover? (It looks a little off to me, but I'm far from an expert on this stuff.) Are these cabinets ported on the side/sides...

    CD Changers: Love/Hate

What I can say about the Sony SCD-CE595 is that it's a cheap, nice sounding way to dip one's toes in the SACD pool but, yes, it is also without question an extremely clunky machine. It's too bad the SCD-2000ES is no improvement in this regard. Oh, well, at least you have the CC3000.

    CD Changers: Love/Hate

The only 5 disc changer I still have is a cheap-o Sony SCD-CE595. It's slow to read discs, not at all quiet when shifting among them, and sounds surprisingly good, especially when playing SACDs. But I also don't use it, so there you go.... I guess I'm somewhere in the middle of the...

    The Covid-19 thread.

All it takes is one new, vaccine-resistant variant and we are off to the races all over again, which could conceivably mean those already vaccinated could once again be every bit as vulnerable as they ever were. This strikes me as something worth clanging the alarm over. Loudly, repeatedly...

    The Covid-19 thread.

High case rates mean greater potential for new variants, against which the current vaccines may or may not be effective. That's the problem.

    The Covid-19 thread.

Last I checked, Aztec is one of the last places on the planet with an A&W drive-in. Still serving root beer in a frosty glass mugs, no less. As to the Covid stuff, yes, all of San Juan County got hit really hard by this crap. Your friend is really lucky to have made it through. On a...

    The Covid-19 thread.

Yes, definitely, but where it is available it doesn't seem to me it should be such a struggle to find it. Where I live (New Mexico) you simply sign up with the Dept. of Health and when it's your turn they tell you where and when to get it. I really can't fathom why this isn't the case...

It sucks that so many of you guys are having to chase down your own vaccines. Really, really sucks. Good luck to everybody.

Absent this, I doubt your earlier post would've rubbed anybody the wrong way. Just sayin'. :)

Do you believe that our hobby is splitting?

The silliest part of this silly video, which is to say of the four minutes I actually watched, is that in 2012 SG named the KEF LS50 an Audiophiliac speaker of the year, yet here he suggests the LS50W, which he actually allows might do some things better than the LS50, is somehow a dodgier...

Do you believe that our hobby is splitting?

I only made it four minutes into this video, but here's what I learned. KEF LS50Ws? Their interface makes Steve Guttenberg uncomfortable. Duly noted. Thanks, Steve. Good stuff. The only question is, what do I do with my LS50Ws now?

Oddly enough, these just landed on my doorstep. (And, yes, I do know I'm a lemming.)
