MM plus phono pre or MC plus phono pre (+ arm?) recommendations

Go go along with hunt for a new to me or an actual new turntable, I'd like to pick your brains (ouch) and get some ideas or recommendations to consider. Should go with a yummy MC cartridge and phono preamp? I used to have an E.A.R. plus Dynavector. Or should I consider a MM plus phono preamp...

Vintage turntable thread - which one?

I have a Dual 1229 idler with Shure V15 cartridge and a standard tone arm. It works well. The rest of my system is vintage tubes and speakers so I would like to keep the TT vintage if possible. And I really can't afford $3,000.00 turntables. :D (I also have a Dial 1209 but that's not why I've...

DAC with RCA in/out (DENAFRIPS ARES II < PONTUS II or something else?)

I should open them up and see what is inside but I think the woofer is a KEF driver which is probably why I picked them up sometime in the last century. Music source is a server with...

    Good excuses for bad equipment

With a tip of the hat to @Kyle 's brilliant thread "bad excuses for new equipment" and not because I keep reading the title wrong, I'm sure it will be useful for many of us here to have a handy list of excuses in case we are "put to the question" by - uh - parties unknown, shall we say? Now...

Room set up and speaker placement

Almost belongs in this forum, hopefully I didn't miss a thread somewhere. :) If so, just delete this! Many speakers are dependent on toe in, toe out, placement from the back and side walls, etc. Check with your manufacturer to see if they have a recommendation or simply experiment by yourself...

    Howdy to Havenites!

Greetings, all! Looking forward to participating. I can't really claim to have found this place all by myself, someone actually referred me here. :) He shall go nameless so no one can ask him "what kind of crazy people do you know, anyway?" Is this where I tell you a bit about myself...
