2020 Audio Plans

If hindsight is 20/20, foresight comes in at 50/50 around here

Therefore:
A) This space intentionally left blank

B) Organize records (furniture)

C) Take a cue from JohnVF and launch some stuff
I've accumulated more and better than I ever expected to own, so it's someone else's turn : )

D) 604C cabinets and crossovers (What have I gotten myself into this time ?!?!?!?)

E) Record the songs that have been wandering around in my head

F) Figure out how to buy a house/property to get out of the rent loop

Man, I have a lot to do

Not a superlative DAC, but a step up from the Mac Mini output. A gateway drug?

My 2020 audio plans? Trying to resist buying that darned Octave V70 SE tubed integrated that sounds so marvelous with my Duevel Venus speakers! Must...resist...

My plans are now going to revolve around house remodel time and expences....
May have to take a self imposed step back from audio, that of coarse will be like quitting heroin. 🤐

My 2020 plans.
Sell a whole bunch of stuff and funnel the funds into the main system.

Acquire a top notch cart and/or retip my Dynavector XX2.

Get a new arm and base/plinth for my other Empire 208.

Sell most of the other TTs except Sony TTS-8000 and AR/Merrill.

Have a metal worker shorten the Bose tulip stands in my Chicago setup.

Maybe find a subwoofer (Rel) for main system.

New DAC distraction aside, I'd like to also add my Jazz CDs to Discogs, now that all the Jazz LPs are in. (I actually did that this year - I'm so proud of myself.) I foresee this being a little easier as many (most?) are bar-coded and can probably be scanned in via phone/app. And then getting them all ripped to a computer would be great, too, but I'll need to find that motivation.

Delivery of new cabinets for my 414z's in December so seasoning and playing early 2020. Reshuffle my main headphone setup with the delivery of a new 45 amp, upgrade the office setup with it and gift the odd man out amp to one of the children. Purchase new (to me) 414z's for the cabinets I built that have grown on me, stain and veneer said cabinets. Put together a multiroom setup for my daughters apartment that includes her first turntable. Figure out a solution for subwoofer for my main system. Figure out some woofers for my garage system to go with the Mantaray's .

I'm sure there's more, I like to tinker, but that's all for the first 3 months or so.
Well, we've started 2020 and the plans have already changed.
1) No new cabinets, carpenter lost his shop and has bigger problems than making me speakers so that's on hold. Anyone know a good cabinet maker in CA?
2) New headphone amp is here and is glorious!!!!!! Thanks PB!
3) Office is now the wife's craft room so there you go....
4) Got new 414z's and they are playing great, without those new cabinets there's a pair collecting dust in the garage. Anyone need some Altec 414z 8 ohm?
5) Daughter would rather stream music than play vinyl, she was the easiest setup I've done so far.
6) a pair of Dual 15 inch Eminence MTL2's for the garage, Dayton audio low profile subs for the main system.
7) Tinkering with Koss ESP-950's, now waiting on an amp for them.

Didn't need 3 months at all. The rest of the year will be for listening. I hope...

Ok three things; 1. I know a really good custom guy in So. Cal. PM me if that helps. 2. That amp is friggin amazing! Needs its own thread. 3. Looking for 414’s at 16 ohm not sure if 8ohm might work the same...please PM me pics and price.

My revised 2020 audio plans are.
  • Complete the “Prodigal Son” Technics SP-10 MkII.
  • Demo and acquire a Phono stage with at least 2 inputs flexible enough for a wide range of Carts that also sounds good to me.
  • Rebuild my Digital streaming capability to match the other sources.
  • Spruce up the listening space to make it more enjoyable aesthetically
  • Research Room Treatments ( Possible 2021 Project)
  • Continue to explore Music and different artists. Get back to the music!
  • repair my amazing Esoteric P2S transport (In Progress)
  • Sell off all remaining unused gear and projects
Deferred.
  • Refurbish H.H Scott Tube Tuner and Multiplex

Excuse for jumping in, but I'm also looking for a good cabinet maker and I'm also in the SF bay area. Old Nuke, please let me know if you find one. I'm also open to So Cal folks since I travel down there a few times a year. If it's OK, I'll also PM Audionut.
Thanks,

@GaryB: found a guy in Campbell, there's a 3 month wait due to all the building going on down here. I'll fish out his card. I owe Audionut a return response, been a little frazzled lately and haven't been on top of things.

Nuke,
Thanks ahead of time for digging up his card - it's much appreciated. Hope things settle down for you and you get a chance to play with your stereo toys again. Glad to compare notes on various projects whenever you get your head above water.

On my 2020 list was actually taking the time to complete integration of the REL T7i subs that I purchased last year with Fritz Carrera 7 BE loudspeakers I added in 2018. It took some experimentation to create something approaching the Harman Synthesis curve. I used Acourate from AudioVero to generate 65k tap FIR filters to put the icing on the cake. I experimented with a half-dozen target curves (easy to switch among them in Roon Remote) before settling on the one that consistently enables the longest and most engaging listening sessions for my wife and me.

Hoping to get Dirac working again in our theater system, but I'm waiting (seemingly, endlessly) for Emotiva to complete their work with Dirac (the company) to restore that feature to their newer products. Besides that, I'm pretty content, but I'm always open to learn/discover something new.
