A DIY Audio Metric of the Severity of the Texas Storm

Mouser's main distribution warehouse is in Texas. Before Covid, Mouser would typically get my orders packed and out of the warehouse within an hour or 2 of my order. With Covid - things could take a day, or maybe 2-3 days when I ordered on a Friday night. Now, following the storm (as of 1 hour ago):Mouser orders.gif

So it's looking like the first order will finally ship 10 days after I placed it. All items are/were in stock. That must have been one helluva storm down there.
 
Big power grid issues across the state, roads and airports closed, lack of water .... and all those parts sitting on cold shelves waiting for some poor guy to pack and ship them.
It has been difficult here for sure.
A lot of people had very hard times and many still are. I feel very lucky to only have to deal with trying keeping warm for a few days.
 
And just to be clear: I wasn't making light of the situation in Texas. Quite the opposite. Mouser runs a tight ship. If it was rendered non-operational by the storm, the situation must be BAD.

Up here in Toronto and elsewhere in Canada, we can kinda relate. While our water and other utilities infrastructure is built to withstand severe cold, every 10 years or so a bad ice storm will bring down power lines, knocking out power/heat/communications for millions.

I understood where you were coming from - it's another example of the storm's impact. Hopefully I didn't imply otherwise. I'd like to go back down there someday, when things are more normal.

Yes. It’s been bad. Worse for some. It’s been the hardest week for my family. I’m worn out.
I know how you feel, I told Lucy last night that I'm just tired of being cold and sleep deprived.
 
Not in Texas, but I lost power Monday afternoon. No running water, gas heat and generator. Had family that was worse off come stay with us. Got power back yesterday afternoon.

Power company linemen are unmentioned first responders! Great respect for them!!

This only one provider here in Texas and they have been pretty good though this.
Entergy: We're pleased to announce that all customers have been restored after this historic winter storm. The Entergy grid has returned to normal operating conditions. We appreciate all customers that conserved energy during this event. We are committed to working with all customers who may have difficulty paying their bill following this storm.
 
That's good news. I saw a news story about a Texas homeowner receiving a $7000 electricity bill as a result of the insane spike in electricity market prices. I hope the state regulator steps in to protect folks who were lucky enough to keep power, but unlucky to be paying market rates. Shouldn't need to mortgage your house to pay for 10 days of home electricity.

Oh the variable rate plans are getting killed.
I suspect to see a big fuel surcharge on mine but my rate should not change.
Another wonderful benefit of deregulation.
