Coming September 29th.

While this title might be additional fodder for the Super Deluxe Edition thread at $275 in it's über-special limited to 3,000 units guise, I'm only interested in what might be a 24-bit/192kHz hi-res download, joining Facelift in that regard.

Failing that, I'll pick up the $12.99 remastered CD and call it a day (the original CD has served me well for these past thirty years). If the remastered audio is anything like it was on the Facelift reissue, this one is a no brainer.

Love me some Dirt. My CD mysteriously disappeared some years ago. I still have the case, but the disc I keep expecting to show up has never materialized. $12.99 for a remastered CD sounds like a good deal. It would be the first new CD I have bought in probably over a decade.

Sounds like an appropriate time to break your streak of consecutive months not buying a CD!

I'll mark you down as not interested in:
  • Box with lid filled with metal shavings, Move shavings around to create your own dirt design using magnetic cover figurine
  • Resin cover figurine fits atop vinyl records on your record player
  • Dirt on Orange 2LP for the first time with remastered audio
  • Five 7” singles with brand new artwork on various colored vinyl: "Them Bones," "Down in a Hole," "Rooster," "Angry Chair" and "Would?"
  • 80 page hardbound book
  • Exclusive Dirt-inspired art prints by Cody Melick, Victor Melendez, Brent McKee, and Eric Wolfe Sahlsten
  • 2-sided foldout poster
  • 8x10 band photo glossy
  • Four reprinted show posters
  • Reprinted set list
  • Dirt Tour laminate

Yeah, I'll pass. Collectors baffle me sometimes. They'll buy things and then never open them to maximize the value. What fun is that?

And I have bought some CDs lately. Just used CDs. Nothing new.

Fun stuff! And its a bit dangerous for audiophiles to poke fun at other people who buy things we consider ridiculous. Certainly more people think its ridiculous to pay 3 figures, let alone 4 figures, for a power cable than there are those of us who accept that as normal.

Certainly collectors have the last laugh if they hold something sealed for a period of time, then sell it at a profit. But I agree with Joe there would be little fun in that for me, I'm the type of record collector who unseals and plays, even if that destroys the resale value.

I wonder just how many of these limited editions (in this case out of a total of 3,000 units) do stay sealed for the purposes of a later resale at a profit.

Holding a 3-4 figure power cord sealed will not result in any appreciation of it's value!

I listened to Dirt just a few days ago. Still one of my favorite "drug" albums. My old boss always complained when a song from Dirt was on the radio back in the day. He referred to it as wrist slitting music.
One of my favorite any type of albums. And your boss wasn’t wrong. Drugs, depression, war, bad relationships, death…they pretty much had it covered.

Certainly very sad that Layne Staley was already well on his way to the coffin, and that this 5x Platinum album and subsequent headlining of the 1993 Lollapalooza Festival were probably the high point for this band's shooting star.

It turns out even though the official release date is September 29th, you can both stream and buy this on Qobuz right now. The download is 24-bit/44.1kHz resolution, suggesting this was originally a digital recording (unlike 1990's Facelift).

Buy it I just did, $10.69 all-in with Qobuz Sublime:

It’s been ages since I played this. I had a bunch of stuff go wandering during an extended hospital stay a long time ago but have slowly been filling in the gaps- I have the main STP CDs, Soundgarden, Nirvana, but I need to check for Temple of the Dog, Mad Season, Pearl Jam 10, the Singles soundtrack, and probably all the Alice In Chains recordings.

All were played ad nauseam when they came out.

I overlooked Mudhoney, Green River, Tad and Mother Love Bone. Maybe that was erroneous on my part.

Mother Love Bone -> Temple of the Dog -> Pearl Jam... due to the untimely overdose death of MLB frontman Andrew Wood, prior to that debut record's actual release.

mad season! that is an overlooked gem - with layne on vocals. look for mad season live stuff too (bootlegs/diy recordings)

I'm curious to see if it sounds any better than the original. If it does I'll definitely buy it, the collectors set doesn't have any real appeal to me.. I guess now that we're talking about it I don't have a cd player either. Hmmm. Lol

wow! what a performance. saw somewhere where that was one of layne's last shows.
So much potential went unrealized, both with Alice In Chains, and Mad Season too.

I had forgotten about this Deluxe Edition until @Deli 's post jogged my memory, hard to believe this was a 2013 release that eventually slipped off my radar. Condition corrected.

I haven't watched the DVD yet, I'm curious if it will look like an audience recording or not. I'm thinking some of it will be the same footage as on that YouTube video, as the DVD track lineup only lists 7 tracks, and then "bonus features", which I'm betting are audience recorded as seen in that clip above.

Somehow Amazon is now listing the exact title I just paid $23.99 for at $14.97:
