All Good Things...but onward and upwards

All good things must come to an end. Got my listening room to this point late last night, snapped a pic, and that sad old phrase was running through my head.

Almost everything in boxes ready for the big move. Not sure where it will come together again and serve that indispensable role in my life of keeping me sane with music, but I know most of the secret sauce is moving with me.

I hope all the important bits are packed away, but I worry about not bringing along this room, I just couldn’t get a box big enough. It might have been getting the system alchemy right years ago (the mix of stuff), but this acoustic space is the best place I’ve listened to my take on audio, and I know it was a huge part of the end result.

I’ll miss this room, and cherish the time I spent in it with my favorite music, and the time I've enjoyed in there with good friends sharing a dram and some tunes.

Can a room be an old (18yrs) friend? Sure seemed it sometimes when I went in there to decompress. Bye old friend.

That's a special room. Spent many immensely enjoyable and memorable hours in that wonderful space. Sad that I won't be getting one last opportunity to visit.
Best of luck in your coming adventures.

Thanks guys. Bitter/sweet for sure; excited to moving forward on a whole bunch of levels (onwards & upwards?) but damn, am I going to miss friends, local music opportunities and that space.

I'll try to be glass-half-full about it, maybe starting with an unfinished basement, I might get that L x W x H ratio just right, deal with that mix of dispersion and absorption even better, maybe design around some in-wall sub horns or something...maybe.

:)

I can't say how many times I've looked to the many photos of your room for inspiration. Not to mention the likely dozen times I've shown Sharon, so she might understand what I've tried to emulate in my own way, over the many years.

Best of all luck Bill, I can feel your emotion and feel like I'm losing a friend. The best thing for me will be cyberstalking your new digs.😉

Thanks Fran! And reading this from someone who lives in such a beautiful part of the US - the Finger Lakes NY - brought another tear to me eye; the Lotus Esprit has to finally go. It hasn't seen the spark of life in about a decade, but my absolute best times behind the wheel were driving this down to Watkins Glen or more local, up into the Haliburton Highlands.

It doesn't get much better for me than getting that series of turns just right with the right combination of wheeling & revs, and this old high-revving normally aspirated Lotus does it better than anything I've driven.

Sadly neglected for way too long (house, kids, no garage, other hobbies...), it's time for it to be re-born by someone who has the time for it and to get that series of turns just right in the future.

That saddens me even more. Ship it out here and I'll garage it for you. :)

Willl we be seeing an emporium ad soon? I'd truly love to have it, but fitting might be challenging.

Fitting would be a huge challenge! I'm a towering 5-6" and barely fit, even had to use the right shoes (size-8) to work the tiny peddles right.

Not sure who Chapman designed these things for but it wasn't for someone your size Erik. :)

I can only slightly imagine as I went through something similar in march of last year- my system finally perfect, then an abrupt move. But you've been there FAR longer than I, and your system is more finely tuned- and the room a more integral part of the special sauce. You'll get there! The boxes arrive, you figure it out, and you wonder where the time went. My system was in boxes for 16 months and is just now seeing the light again. The time off gives you perspective! May you come back with it stronger, with even more incredible music.

Getting a fresh start on a room is kind of exciting, I know many elements will not change as I've loved the system path I ended up on and want to continue down that road, but it just might get better!

(I hope?)

I am glad to hear that the move is for good reasons and not a result of (unfortunate) circumstances…also, that you are continuing the journey in a new dedicated listening room.
Your voyage and speaker choices has directly (and in my case indirectly) influenced many fans of this hobby; in their path and destination. I look forward to the next chapter of your audio story and wish you well on the move.

Hopefully starting from scratch you can apply everything you learned all at once. If anything, it'll be different and humans seem to be preprogrammed to be inspired by differences/novelty... it's a good challenge if anything.

Wow. Don’t check the Haven for a few hours and you see what happens?

I couldn’t imagine walking away from that room with all the time and effort you put into setting it up. I’ll bet the last thing you want to do now is start tinkering again, but you’ve got a good point that this could be an opportunity to apply what you’ve learned since. Distributed bass, etc.

I have no doubt the next incarnation will be even better and will inspire another wave of audiophiles to head down the less traveled path.
