All things Stephens Tru-Sonic

That is very good question. I had the same thought before fitting it in and It worked very well. My cabinet was customized for 604E with only 4 mounted bolts only in square pattern out of 8 holes of Altec driver. These holes fit into my 206AXA. I think Altec and other brand made standard for these holes so their drivers can interchangeable in the same cabinet design.
I went back to an old photo of my drivers in the Altec cabinets. Looks like I mounted them with 4 bolts per driver as well. I can’t remember if there were more bolt holes.

Edit: After looking at the 612 cabinets, they only have four mounting bolts.

Hi folks! Does anyone happen to know where these 15” coaxials fall in the timeline of Stephen’s history? My guess is they are early 60s or so. Came in a pair of homemade cabinets with 1 inch thick plywood. Very good jazz speakers. They do horns and voices really well. Not so great with rock. There is the number 612 with an AB impressed in the back. They likely didn’t make a bunch of these. I’ve only seen another pair and one single that were on eBay a ways back. No other info found. Thanks in advance!

the eia code is that of utah (328), and utah bought trusonic in the mid-60s. according to the interwebs they put utah components in trusonic frames starting late 60s/early 70s…which would mean your drivers could be from 1971…

looks like it was a lafayette sk-315, made by utah from trusonic components (in part).

this catalog cut is from 1976.

and from the 1971 lafayette catalog no. 710, the same speaker. the 1970 catalog lists the sk-215, which is lighter and with a different frame.

Wow, thanks madwing! Exactly what I was looking for. I’m bummed they are this late and likely of inferior quality, but I’m happy to know the truth. Appreciate it!
