Almost done futzing with my 846a Valencia's

I wonder how a 416 or Duplex would do in a big BBC style thin wall cabinet and mounted behind a slot to increase dispersion. If nothing else it would be lighter and cheaper. ;-)

Interesting thought. I've read Karlson's aren't great with a Duplex (in fact terrible, fwiw), although obviously the "slot" is of a very, very different construction.

By narrowing the source of the sound it widens the dispersion.
Hey Tom, I spend a few minutes (maybe not enough) looking for other resources to learn about this phenomenon. I know you have significant investment into this sort of thing -- would you be able to point me in a direction to learn more about narrow sources and dispersion?

I'm currently fooling around with VOTT cabinets so to some degree this concept directly applies to me at the present time

@asilker

Harry Olson was an engineering kahuna at RCA and knew damned near everything. His book "Acoustical Engineering" can be read for free on Google Play and other online sources. Read the section on loudspeakers.

Lots of discussion of these slots here...
