Amazon's got your doorway speakers right here: ELAC Debut 2.0 B6.2

I think a price that low will always be good! ;)

Must be a heck of a deal if you unchained your wallet and spent some money....
Yup, absolutely true.
I talked myself out of dropping $2500 for one of them there Bob Carver Crimson 275 thingies (a 2 x 75 watt all vacuum tube amp weighing 19 lbs)... but I've heard so many good things about these ELACs I simply couldn't resist at the price.

The fact that I can order on Amazon Prime with two clicks* may have also been a factor :p

If I had the room and/or a more understanding wife, I'd buy a whole surround setup and finally get that home theater I've wanted since 20 years ago.

I also refuse to initiate one-click ordering, partly out of concern for "security" but also the awareness that it's just too easy - I have to have at least the second click as a psychological confirmation that I actually want to do this. And I refuse to allow any devices remember my PayPal password for the same reason(s) - I want the "obstacle" of having to remember the damn thing as an additional confirmation that I actually want to buy whatever needless things I'm buying. It's saved me a few times, but I've also learned that Amazon-ing (or Audiogon-ing, for sure) with a glass or two of wine does help lubricate* the clicking.

I ended up with something last month because I had forgotten that I'd put in one-step ordering. I must have been a bit inebriated when I set that up. My weaknesses are when I'm looking at ebay while enjoying whiskey, or annoyed at work.

egg-zack-a-tack-ly!

They came today.

Now, interestingly enough...

I ordered them with free no rush Prime shipping (as opposed to free Prime two-day shipping).
Amazon gave me a $1 credit for not using two-day shipping.
They came in less than 48 hours, by UPS (even though I had given only our PO Box address) to our door.

I don't think I want to understand Amazon's wiles...

They have your number. Watch out for drones! :) How do they look? Need pic's!

Well, I continue to try these, but I think I am really limited by the choice of amplifiers available to me here. :(
There is nothing here that is greater than about 100 wpc, and none of those is modern in any sense of the word (although some are rehabbed).

Right now, the ELACs are connected to a rehabbed Yamaha CR-2020 (100 wpc into 8 ohms, give or take). The audible result isn't much different than the hk770 power amp (ca. 70 wpc) that I started with.

The ELACs sound very polite. Very pleasant. Easy enough to listen to... but thick and slow. Very undynamic (is that a word?). Sort of like I'd expect a loudspeaker on Valium or SSRIs* (or maybe after ECT**) to sound -- kind of muted or detached.

They also seem to be quite rolled off in the treble. They don't sparkle.

Disappointing so far.
