Any Havenites Shave With A Double Edge Safety Razor?

My favorite, by far, method of shaving is with a Double Edge Safety Razor.

Wondering if there are any other Havenites who have given up on the 3-4-5 or more "blade race" and have gone back to shaving like our fathers (or grandfathers for our younger folks ;)) did. :)

By the by, if you think audio forums can get a bit "contentious"..... ;)

Let the contention begin then.

Pffffft! I have not seen my own face since Nov. 20, 1980.

I use an old Gillette safety razor with Feathers blades. I bought a 200 pack of blades like 3 years ago and I have not gotten through them yet.

I use a 1950's era Gillette razor with Wilkinson blades....and Barbasol shaving cream.

I use a double edged safety razor (have two old Gillettes, one was my grandfather's), and also a injector-blade single blade razor. Still trying to figure out the latter, as I just got it and keep cutting myself with it....

And I regret, deeply, having run across the online shaving community. Few things have left me less impressed with humanity :)

I sure do. My daily driver is the beautifully made, and adjustable, Merkur Futur.

I've got about a 10 year supply of various types of DE blades. Mostly from Eastern Europe and Russia. The Chinese and Indian ones I tried were consistently crap. Still not as good as the old American made Gillette. Or the Swedish Gillette for that matter.

Badger and Blade? I am a member over there, though I basically haven't post in more then 10 years. Yeah, you wouldn't think that shaving would be that contentious.

It was a Facebook group, but crazy tribalism and a whole bunch of assholes. Made me want to use a Schick disposable.

Though I do think just about the best shaving appliance ever made is the original version of the Gillette Atra. Two blades are actually better then one. And better the 3, 4, 5, or 6. Solidly built, with a heavy, metal handle.

My recommendation does only apply if you are using the original Gillette blades. Easily, if not inexpensively, available on eBay.

Ah ok. Badger and Blade is the biggest of the shaving fora. Tons of great info, but just ignore the members, and stick to the area's you are interested in.

Recently on a work trip I forgot my razor so bought some disposable ones. Was kind of surprised that they, well.. I got a closer shave than with my old Gillettes. But, it wasn’t the same feel so...

The Atra is kind of a comfortable in-between razor. With a good metal handle, it feels of quality and has a satisfying solidity to it. But it also offers a close, quick and idiot proof shave. It feels like a very well engineered razor. Mine gets mostly used during travel.

I have one of the Atras - a gift from my late Father-in-Law. It gives the best shave next to my double edge safety razors. :)

Perfect for travel. :)

My injector razor looks like this, company called Supply. It gives a really close shave... to the point where I haven't quite figured it out yet, as I keep cutting myself with it. I'm using their most aggressive setting (replaceable holders for the blades control how aggressive it is), as the next one down isn't close enough. I'll consider it a challenge, as most people who have it love it. Me, I'm losing a lot of blood over it.

My face has a lot of weird angles on it and it does not like them.

I've used a Merkur Progress for years. Just recently started using a Double Open Comb razor from Phoenix Shaving:

Really nice shave. Gentle and close.

I've used Merkur, Astra, Derby and Feather blades.
