Anyone Still Running a CD Player as a Primary Source?

Funny, I sold stacks of records to buy some cds among other things (records I didn’t care for of course). I also heard that Best Buy will stop carrying cds soon, what’s up with that? Although it’s been a few years since I’ve bought a new cd from a traditional electronics store.

I take a couple years off only to find CD playback has become archaic?

First of all, welcome to The Haven, @doucanoe :)

Please post a bit about yourself and your systems in the Introductions room. :)

With higher quality streaming, hi-rez downloads, etc, CD seems to have lost the "latest and greatest" mantle.

As someone who still listens primarily to vinyl, I feel CD's pain. ;)

Thanks! I broke away from vinyl several years ago. I do quite a bit of streaming now but CD is my hard copy format of choice.

Hey, Ron! Funny...I did about the reverse. Seedies were my main focus for two decades...then I got my album collection back from my brother and haven't looked back. I still have 600 or so CD's, but have them all ripped. No longer even own a CDP!

Hey Dan! It's been a while. I'd been collecting since I was young but developed a love/hate relationship with the LP for the past decade. I love the hands on nature of the format but it just proved too time consuming. I still have a lot of LP's but sold off my classical collection to some collector that drove up from around your parts somewhere. I sent dennydog home with a couple hundred after a get together several years ago now. I sold off my Jazz collection (4-500) to Redboy prior to that. That move still haunts me but was happy they went to a friend and a good home. I get the itch for LP from time to time I find that overall, I miss the content much more that format itself.

Man, If not for Ripping them, I wouldn't even touch a cd. I have not played a CD in a few weeks.

CD hifi listening is a fairy new experience to me (in conjunction with higher end audio components). I’d like to try an sacd too. Maybe I’ll eventually tire like others and move to digital, which is more practical and can be listened to anywhere.
