Hello friends! Just a quick reminder that this Saturday is our April SMAC meet. If you have not yet sent an RSVP, it's helpful, but not required. See original post (below) for the deets...

Steven is getting some vittles together and the housekeeper was by on Monday to make the place look less like slobs live here. I also spent the afternoon moving some chairs and stools up to the listening room and attending to a few last-minute OCD-audio details (haha). With cooler weather forecasted, we should be reasonably comfortable.

Note: I have a few "junque" items that would love to go home with you, if you attend, at no charge:
1. Denon 3910 DVD/CD/SACD player w/remote, Redbook CD is unreliable, but SACD plays fine; repairable?
2. Oppo BDP-83 BluRay/SACD player w/remote, does not turn on, symptoms suggest failed P/S capacitors, likely repairable
3. Sony TC-WE835S tape deck w/remote, manual; near mint, very little use; dysfunctional, needs belt(s); very repairable
4. Auralex-knock-off foam acoustic sound panels:
- four each 24"x60" flat cardboard (Ikea Kallax cartons) with 2" pyramid acoustic foam (charcoal grey) glued on
- three small 12x24 panels of same
- about six acoustic foam 24" corner bass traps (same charcoal grey)

Hi gang! This month's SMAC meet will be here on Saturday April 22 from 1pm to 6pm. Point your GPS to: 287 Ottawa Dr, Pontiac, MI 48341.

We have enough house to reasonably accommodate a larger gathering if it happens, so no worries about attendance - all are welcome! We'll provide some munchies, and the bar is well stocked. Bring something if you wish, or help yourself here.

An RSVP is not needed, but will be helpful if you can.

Note: We have a "shared" driveway, and technically there is "no parking" on our street. However, we have hosted many gatherings and have never had any problems. (Our local constabulary usually have better things to do than fuss about parking on the street.) You may carpool if you prefer, or you can park on the next street and walk over, but it's probably not necessary.

1. The main upstairs "Music Library" system:
- speakers: Harbeth C7ES3 "30th Anniversary Edition" on Resonant Woods stands
- amplifier: Pass Labs XA-30.5
- pre-amp: McIntosh C220 w/Gold Lion 12AX7 tubes in line stage and phono stage
- turntable: VPI Scout w/ADS, JMW-9 tonearm, Nagaoka MP-500 moving-iron cartridge
- CD/SACD: Sony/ModWright SCD-XA5400ES w/6SN7 output stage and custom power supply
This is a smallish third-floor "attic" room that was very recently renovated (after a plaster emergency in 2021) and is about 90% done. The final 10% isn't likely to get finished by the meet. Oh well...

2. The Family Room "bar" system:
- speakers: GR Research N2X+
- amplifier: 1990s Yamaha A/V receiver
- turntable: audio-technica PL-120 (modified) w/audio-technica AT-14Sa cartridge (OEM stylus)
- CD/SACD: some Sony thing I recently got for $50 on CL because the Oppo BDP-83 apparently died (power supply caps, I suspect...)
It should be noted that this system would not pass the audiophile "sniff test" (haha) but rather it is intended to be a user-friendly place to play tunes (me and friends) and if, for instance, a beer or cocktail accidentally gets spilled all over the turntable, neither myself nor the tipsy guest should be all that heartbroken. :)

3. Eh?
In the past we've cobbled together a third "system" in the Living Room, but I don't think I've got enough spare components to "seed" that system anymore, and since that room's also been renovated, there's no longer carpet nor long drapes, so it's loud and echo-y. It's probably not a good place to do it anymore, so I think we'll pass. Alternatively, maybe bring your favorite portable Bluetooth speaker and have an outdoor shoot-out in the yard if the weather cooperates? I can offer up a JBL "Flip 5" (which is amazing) and a JBL "Go3" (which is less amazing) to start things off.

Lastly, there are two cats that live here with us (Myles and Simon) who likely will be locked downstairs for the meet. If you are allergic or sensitive, you may wish to plan accordingly...

P.S. I know... I just now saw that this is the same day as the Ford Audiophile SWAP. I can't change the date for the SMAC meet, so I simply encourage any of you attending (or exhibiting at) the swap to stop by here when done! In the words of Tom Bodett: "We'll leave the light on for you."

Sorry I'm goinf to miss this! I'm in hospital battling COVID. Be careful out there please gents. I'm on high flow oxygen, high dose steroids and still short of breath.

Sorry to hear that Dave, sending you some positive vibrations.

I was wondering if that is why Robert bailed too, he mentioned he was sick and had just spent the entire weekend at Axpona.

Wow Dave, I’m so sorry to hear this. I knew you had it, and was surprised to hear that you still were fighting it, but hospitalization is a huge surprise. Take care and we all hope for a quick recovery, release, and no long haul complications.

I had RSVPed and planned to stop by for a few later this afternoon, but a morning delivery that still hasn't arrived yet has me waiting at home. 🙄 I miss the old days when a company would actually hold to what they promised a customer.

@DC the room looks nice!

That sucks!! Hope you get better soon! Sending healing vibes your way.

Very nice!!! What is the black box next to the amp on the floor?
I think that might be a Shunyata power conditioner, but not completely sure.

Per a previous post from DC, "It's a Shunyata Denali 2000/T (designed to be an amplifier-grade conditioner that doesn’t limit instantaneous current), coupled with an (obscene, if you ask me) Anaconda Zitron HC cable - a nice combo."
