Audio companies with cult like followings

Hmmm. Wasn’t thinking about myths or dogma but more the veneration, dedication and respect aspect.

Also, the large group following.

The only Meadowlark myth I know of is mhardy’s continual insistence that you actually give the speakers away for free.
It has been known to happen. ;)

That has me thinking... I put a Radian Driver on my Altec horn. Does that mean I'm a heretic or enlightened?

I think I was "re-programmed" when GPA's prices went up.
I have no room to talk.
Like Aldo Cella (remember him?!?), I am no slave to fashion.

I mean... it wasn't hideous. :o

Well, one could head over to that great tube audio porn site known as Glow in the Dark Audio and, probably, add, at least, half of the tube amps to this list. Damn, he has had some nice gear through his system!

Three in particular stand out to me:

1. 300b’s.

2. Shun Mook “Magical” Mpingo discs. The Magic of Mpingo

3. Peter Belt’s controversial accessories. Peter Belt, 1930-2017

True story: I was at the winter CES a few years ago and Shun Mook had a suite in the Venetian. I’d heard the stories about the “magical” discs so I decided to have a look see for myself. I remembers Mpingo discs seemingly haphazardly placed on various pieces of audio equipment. But what really caught my eye was what looked to be two tall tinker-toy apparatuses set in front of two large floor standing speakers. The music being played had some loud bass passages, so I made the mistake of bending over to put my index finger to see if it was vibrating. :over:The reaction from the vendors would be what the Cardinals in the Vatican would likely do if some pagan took a huge dump on the Pope’s throne during Easter Mass. :panicI was immediately escorted out of the room and told not to return. Then the Shun Mook folks emptied the room for 20 minutes and told their visitors that they had to reset the karma. When I heard that I immediately started looking around for Jim Jones, but then I realized he was already dead. Talk about a cult in that room .:think

I don't see any cults here just a little brand loyalty and harmless eccentrics like the Audio Science Review crowd.

What I find sinister in the hifi world is the activities of the para military wing of the IT industry - the Digital Taliban. These guys hunt in packs on the Roon Community rooting out heretics. The purge won't end until they've driven a stake through Hans Beekhuyzen's heart. LOL

and here i thought that the ASR crowd was Taliban-ish - trying to stamp out fun in audio. interested to know more about what constitutes heresy in the Roon community.

Sort of surprised no one has mentioned Mark Levinson. Maybe it isn't what it was pre 2k, but I remember lots of fuss then. I had a few pieces including the ML1 Preamp and ML2 Monos. If I could have kept the ML2's running I'd still have them. Awesome amplifiers.

How about Audio Research, had em, didn't like em. Lots of brand loyalty there as well.
