I thought this DAC (the III SE) dunked on the Schiit Yggdrasil when I had it. Opened my eyes to the NOS sound.

what does 'the NOS sound" reference here? am interested in checking out a modern dac also.

It was the 'A2' (later renamed to the 'OG', and now it's the Yggdrasil+...)
Like Woody described: thick and juicy in the best way. I also tried the BorderPatrol SE (also preferred to the Yggdrasil but honestly cannot justify the price for what is inside of it) and then settled with the Abbas DAC for a long while (~2 years) before going DACless (where I am now).

i'm slow and still trying to figure out 'NOS' here - usually means new old stock but that does not seem to fit new new stock dacs.
Oh sorry, I meant non-oversampling. There is a lot that goes into the sound of all these DACs other than just oversampling but the choice of not using it seems to influence a lot of other design factors into a certain direction...
