Nate? Stingy?
No, I’m sure he meant stinky. That checks out.Nate? Stingy?
Talking about stinky… any frozen north camping trips done or planned. Came to mind because 1 year, many years ago, I and a friend tent camped in northern Michigan during deer season. There was snow on the ground and the only source of heat in the tent was a Coleman gas lantern. We stopped by a friends cozy, little, heated cottage after about 5 days of this because he offered a hot shower. He said we were stinky. No, I’m sure he meant stinky. That checks out.
Was going to say that the 6SL7WGTs are the bee's knees. On par with the 6SU7, which is a delight. Those military 6SL7s are very nice tubes.
I heard that amp many years ago so liquid sounding!
How are you liking your 6C33C tubes?
Just gotta say… the different base colors and height of the two middle tubes are causing me and my aesthetic sensibilities some distress. I’ll see myself out.
I have a pair of red-base Sylvania 5881s that look very similar to your Tung Sols...Nice grab Woody, That's a beautiful looking amp. How are you liking your 6C33C tubes?
Funny enough, today a little before I saw this thread, I randomly scored (was gifted) this beautiful matched pair of NOS Tung-Sol USA 5881/6L6WGB and a quad set of NOS RCA 5881in boxes from my tech who rarely ever works on tube gear anymore and gave them to me because there were just two left. They're new, wrapped in vintage paper cloth & both tested the same & strong on his tube tester. Will just ned to find another matching pair for my Harman Kardon HK-250 amp. I can't wait to listen to them. I think I have some of those red base 5692's laying around.

It really is a great sounding amp. This is just lush and tuneful.
Now, to deal with the damaged wood base. I am figuring out if I'm going to fix/mod it or build a new one of some sort. So many options.
You're amp looks beautiful.
How deep is that crack/damage on the top right side? One possibility, you could trim/slice off say 1/8" off the whole top of the plinth to get below the cracked damage and still not effect the front detail work (top input selector mark) and screw mountings? You could use a tablesaw, fence set just so; and just run all three sides. The rest of the damage on it looks like it can be sanded down and re-apply a clear coat; and Bob's your uncle.
It's a beautiful looking piece, and would be quite a bit of work to replicate it. Would be great if you can save it.
Have to say, I'm asymmetrical myself. (Bada Bing)Just gotta say… the different base colors and height of the two middle tubes are causing me and my aesthetic sensibilities some distress. I’ll see myself out.

Thanks to some HFH generosity I did get a matching Red Base 5691. Awwww yeah symmetry!

Interested in any trades? Like a couple of 5881s for a single 5691? 😉Nice Woody, I'm getting interested in this amp and its sound, I really love my Scott 222c (20W) and I would curious to get one of these and hear how they compare; I have about six of those 6C33C laying around somewhere, no idea if they're still any good.
* * Is that a Moth Audio PV4 passive preamp I'm seeing sneaking into the pic?
Glad you found the appropriate 5691, Looks like HFH members beat me to it; I was getting worried about your asymmetrical dilemma. I just went through my stash this afternoon and found these three RCA red bases (63-09).
