Backyard Critters

Years back, had a nest of them in the backyard. They can be feisty though! The ground yellow jackets are very unfriendly. Got
wrapped up in them a couple years back while mowing the yard. Didn't realize what was happening until they got me about 15 times.
Kinda hacked me off, and made my arm swell up 3X and itch like crazy. I did terminate their quarters.
Had a run in with the ground yellow jackets in my mom’s rock garden when I was a kid. They stung our dog multiple times, so I investigated and found their burrow entrance. I threw a brick over the entrance and within minutes there was a crowd of yellow jackets angrily buzzing around the brick. Then I, along with a friend, got dressed up in winter coats, hats, gloves, ski pants and masks. We grabbed cans of wasp killer and went to work. It was funny watching the little buggers trying to sting me through the layers of clothing.
Turns out the survivors relocated 2 doors down and a couple weeks later stung the neighbors dog and pet rabbit. I kept quiet on where they might have come from 🫢.

Being it's a rabbit and they way they multiply I have to assume cooling is required after a bout of bumpin' uglies.
Yesterday there were 4 rabbits out back, including three smaller ones. This may be a case of mama left the kids with dad and is taking a break.

we have them in the south, occasionally trying to outrun a coyote. Saw once our fence saved the day when the bunny slipped
through, but the coyote couldn't!
I had a Brittney spaniel years ago that had that happen. The rabbit went through a chain link fence at full speed and my dog ran headfirst into the fence. Quite comical really.

Sitting out back on the patio and 2 walnuts came down and hit my shed roof with a loud thump about a 1/2 minute apart. Woke the pup up from his nap in the sun.

A couple of minutes later the little bastard came to retrieve them. He has been busy the last couple of weeks. He’s storing them all in my big brush pile I have from storm cleanup this summer.

I'd be ok with storage in a brush pile. Just as long as it's not in my house

The previous owner of our house let the squirrels sublet the shed. It was a mess inside when we bought the house. I’ve been battling with the little buggers for 4 years to keep them out of the shed. Been successful so far this year.

This fox makes short visits to our garen every few days. it needs it having to scale our 6ft Waneylap fence both ways.
The hedgehog feeding station I made last year, is completely cat and foxproof.

But it's ever hopeful.

I've stopped feeding the squirrels as, "they refuse to repair the golf pitchmarks they make in the lawn."
Many years ago we had a squirrel feeder on the patio steps just outside our French windows.

If it were empty, a squirrel would sometimes stand on its back legs with its front feet on the glass of the door, making itself as tall as it could, to attract my wife's attention to the problem.
She'd get some food in her hand and slowly open the door, so as to not frighten or injure the squirrel. One day she obviously wasn't opening it fast enough so the sqirrel moved to the side of the door, put a paw on the edge and "helped" her open it.

Went to water the flower garden today and was surprised by a young critter that I startled. Looks like a young hare aka Jackrabbit as we call them. (sometimes we see domesticated rabbits around that are escapees) Seems awfully young for mid-September, I'm guessing maybe 3 months old or so.
