Cable builders and DIYers. Question.

I have a beavy of DH Labs BL-1 series II cables. They are currently terminated with RCA connectors. Is it worth it to have them redone with XLR terminations? Or am I better off leaving them be and repurchase new cables? I would have to farm the job out and will have to factor that in. What are your recommendations?

Are they factory terminated? If so I'd leave 'em alone and buy new ones.

Most of the cost is in the termination, that wire is only $6/ft. and the rebranded Vampire RCAs they use are between $6-12 a piece depending on which exact version was used.

My local dealer charges $75 per cable end for termination, meaning an RCA pair of cables costs $300 to re-terminate. Granted they are on the expensive side and are generally catering to a very high-end audience with stupid-expensive cables, but that kind of pricing is a damn good reason to buy a soldering iron.

For relatively inexpensive cable like BL-1, I'd leave a nice factory termination job alone and just buy new ones.

I agree, if they were factory terminated leave them alone. If you are going to a balanced system, you can sell the factory built cables, DIY, not so much. I have build all of my interconnects and it did save me money, I probably spent less than half of what they would have cost me factory built but I did all the termination. You could also move up the DH Labs line the Air Matrix.
