Colin Wonfer, magnum amp appreciation

Hi Colin,

I wanted to reach out from Chicago to tell you how much I’m enjoying one of your amps. I’ve owned a Magnum IA.200 Special Edition since 2011, and while I’ve always liked it, a recent change has completely blown me away.

In January 2026, I went out looking for "larger" modern speakers to replace my KEF Q150s. Instead, I came home with a pair of 1977 Chartwell LS3/5a (15 ohm) speakers. Now the Magnum is sounding amazing.

I had the magnum serviced in 2022, replacing the RES2W and RES5Wresistors along with the LM317T IC. It’s running beautifully. I use it with the cd direct engaged.

The system sounds so good now that I need to upgrade my turntable. I’ve been running a Pro-Ject RPM Genie 1.3 (also bought in 2011) with a Hana SL MKIIand a PS Audio GCPH. I’m now planning to move to a Rega Planar 8 to really let the Magnum and Chartwells shine.

Thank you for building such an amazing amp. It’s making music in 2026 sound better than ever.

Best regards,

Evan

I bought a Magnum Audio IA200 circa 2007 (based on a Bound For Sound review) and a CD 2020, both new from the US distributor.
Very nice integrated, but I didn't keep it long because I was in my experience as many speakers and amplifiers as possible phase.
