This popped recently.
Are these worthwhile asking g ?
At the very least, that's interesting. I've never heard the Urei take on the 604G, but I'm betting it's probably pretty good.

So is the difference only the horn on the compression driver (and, of course, the crossover)? The back of the 604-8G looks otherwise the same as a standard 604-8G as far as I can tell.

Based on my Google Fu, it looks like there were two versions of Urei monitors using this driver, a smaller box with just the Urei 604-8G called the 811 and a much larger box with a second 416 (I think) called the 813 (sorta like the two different versions of the Big Red Mastering Labs monitors).

That horn is supposed to be an improvement over the multicell one (not that I see anything wrong with mine). You get G’s, time aligned crossovers and a Diana Krall cd? I’d call that a trifecta!:D Decent price too!

I was thinking the price was in the range.
Don't k ow much about the Urei branded versions.
Decisions, decisions .....
It appears the only difference in the speaker itself is the horn. Everything else is branded Altec. From what I understand, the highly-regarded GPA 604-8H-III uses the same Urei horn profile instead of the Manta-ray horn. If you don't mind the blue, it seems like an inexpensive way to get to the most recent iteration of the classic AlNiCo Altec duplex. You could always roll a 604-8G crossover (using the 604-8H-III that Jeff Markwart designed) and sell the Urei crossovers if they're not to your taste.

If it were me (and if I didn't already have my 604-E's), I'd go for it.

[EDIT] Looks like someone even makes replacement hardwood bi-radial horns for these! E-800 Biradial Wood Horn for Altec 604-8G Coaxial Driver – Joseph Crowe

I'd personally ask for a discount if I was forced to take the Diana Krall CD. :D
Me too....
Trouble is cash is tight right now, just paid to have a huge oak tree cut down that had oak wilt and have to replace my two heaters before winter.
These would equal one heater... but I do have several coats to wear. 😅

If these were nearby, I'd snatch them up in a heartbeat. I'd love to do a comparo with my 8Gs in my 620 cabs. Especially with those xovers.

I wonder what became of the cabs?

Seems like the price is quite good if they are in the condition indicated. Not sure if the UREI horns were added, as I gather the 8G had the multicellular horn. If done well, likely no problem.

I have been running the 8G in 9 cu ft cabs with Marquart crossovers for the last several years, and I am VERY happy with them. If properly deployed, the 8G has the potential to be a stunning driver. Perhaps the coherence of a coaxial contributes.....

If the cones and Diaphragms are good, Bring an Ohmmeter, and listen to them.
thats a very good deal. those Alnico 604's are Great. I love my 604G's in the aprox 8 cu ft
Big Red cabs. although a little Bass shy. I just pu some nice 12' cabs to get some deeper Bass.
I'm also running the Marquart I don't think thats the correct "spelling" X-overs
