I ran across this re-print on what RCA claims to be the first Jazz recording.
It's marked as a promotional item and it's the first time I have ever laid eyes on it. So, I bought it!

My grandfather (who was born in the 1880s) very much disliked jazz, and used to call it 'jass'. It was always assumed this was due to English being his second language (was born in Holland), but perhaps he was correct!
The pressing was perfect and the sound was as good as one could expect from a 1917 recording.
Note: This promo was made in 1997! I'm the first one to ever play it too! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UljhWqC50QU
