Was listening to this fabulous sounding SACD tonight from Mobile Fidelity. This is likely Dean Martins best recording. He is in fantastic form, and the sound quality is fabulous - Capitol at its heyday. But Nelson Riddle really mailed this one in. It's like he came up with one arrangement and applied it to every song.

Still, a great album!

I have that one in the ripping queue right now, it's turn comes soon.

(FWIW), I really ,really like(d) Deano as an entertainer. His TV show was terrific! His art was to make it look easy to be an inebriated, barely-together buffoon. Nowadys, when you see something like that in the media, it is an actual inebriated, barely-together buffoon :p

Heck I like(d) his movies, too --- 'specially the Matt Helm movies! :)
Perhaps I shouldn't admit that in public(?)

Don't forget the Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts ! I remember watching them years ago. I can get them on Amazon Video now, and they haven't aged well. Foster Brooks made a living being a faux inebriated so and so.

Yes he (Brooks) did, and, yes, he was very good at it, as well.
Deano could croon, though. Too.

Now, just watching that She's My Kind of GIrl (right near the beginning) -- with the rollin' camera... if that wasn't rehearsed... that's phenomenal.

Fan of his TV show and the Matt Helm movies. :)

I loved the roasts. :)

Does anyone remember his movie 'Five Card Stud'?

I remember the roasts as absolutely hysterical and pretty edgy (in that self-consciously hip way of the entertainment industry) for their time -- but I was a kid and it was a different world, a long time ago. :-I
