Death of the Modi

My Modi dac quit working today. The first Schiit product I've had fail. I tried it on two different PC systems. No Go! The PC will recognize it but, that's it.
I did have a power outage last night. I cant believe a voltage spike from the PC USB would kill it. I guess it did.

Yup it took a dump! I guess on the bright side I get to look for a new DAC.

Anyone have a suggestion on a new Dac? Or anyone want to unload one? I only use it in my Tidal setup. I doubt I'll ever get Roon so, DSD capability isn't a must. Would like one with a good chip.

So I'm guessing since I had the Modi 1. I should upgrade to the 2. I checked the site and the Uber 2 has its own PS and switchable rates. Wonder if it any better?

I sent Schiit a email and got a answer in 51 minutes. Can't believe it. They didn't want it back but, said I could have it fixed.

Great news. Not many companies that care so much about the customer experience.

I'm really shocked. It's a minimum of 30.00 to service the unit. They told me I would get a email before any repairs are made. I can get a new one for 99.00 but, I'd just like to see how the story unfolds. Just received the return info. So I'll send it back in the AM.

Sent the Modi back home this morning. It was the first gen Modi, so it will be interesting to see what Schiit does with it.

Well, this sounds good so far. Good luck on the repair. With the budget you mention, you could go for the Mimby if you wanted. (Modi Multibit).
