Death of the Modi

opa1 gets a star in my book. This is the first time I have seen someone talk about the products that did not have to cram the schiit name in the title like a schoolboy getting away with something. You know just like tubehifinut did in the first follow up post. The name is to keep folks from forgetting it and that sure works as evidenced by this thread and others all over the web with grown men getting away with typing the company name.

If you can't have fun with that name..... ;)

And Rule #1 at The Haven is, Have Fun. ;)

I have never, not once, taken anything they've ever done (they = that company) seriously specifically due to the name they chose. I am not saying any of their products aren't worthy (clearly, some of them are), but ... really? That's the name you chose? Come on...

THFN, you were just an example, nothing meant by it. Just roll with it. So many people all over the world with a product from this company have toyed with the name you are by no means the poster boy or alone, just a case in point in this particular thread. Don't get bothered about it.

Hey guys, My whole purpose of this thread was to talk about the Modi and its value. I've had the unit for a very long time. It's been powered up 24/7 for years. I think it would still be working if the voltage spike wouldn't have happened. I also own other products made by them. I'm really pleased with their performance too. I sent an email way after hours and still received a response from them. Also I sent it back just to see if they fix it or update, whatever. If the costs are to high to warrant fixing, then they can throw it in the trash. I do my fair share of BS here too. So don't take this the wrong way. I just want to see what a good old USA manufactured product/company does with older units.

Be interesting to see how they handle a well out of warranty, old unit that has had updates along the way. Some US companies stand behind them and offer rebuilds to back like it was new again or an updated version of what it could be.

Here's the update on the Modi. It's dead. Schiit sent a email at 8:32 tonight. They said it would be 80.00+ship to fix. So I just told them to throw it in the trash. So no Hallmark ending to this story. :)

Sorry it didn't work out for you. Nice to know that Schiit looks after their customers so well. I wonder what they would have done for the $80. Likely pretty well a new Modi.

The Modi multibit. I leaning towards it. The Uber is nice too but always out of stock. I've been reading about Dac's for days. Just about worn out. :)

The multibit approach is quite unique at this price point. I may upgrade my Bifrost 4490 that way someday.

I hear you about the research fatigue. I went thru the same thing with turntable selection a few years ago.

Onward and upward Mark! Looks like as good a time as any to dip your toes into the DSD side of the pool now. :)

This! Some pretty interesting things to hear down the DSD path but it does mean stepping away from schiit.

Yeah, I'd lean that way too, if I hadn't banned the internet from my stereo. It's an incredible piece if technology, at a really incredible price point. Nicely done, Schiit.

I'm really happy with the quality of the sound (with DAC) now. I'm sure DSD is better, I'm just not ready to use it. I have two PC systems and no Dac at the moment. I have looked at the ifi nano and micro too.

I'd love to buy the MP-D2, just not the right time yet. I'm in the process of building a HP system.

I have a DSD capable DAC but rarely use it for that. My musical choices just aren't to be found in that format. I'm curious about the Schiit DACs but I'm on a self-imposed buying hiatus.
