Designing and assembling the ultimate horn based system

I continue to tweak and optimize the new horn system. I like to take videos at different intervals to compare the sound reproduction with some of my other systems as many times the videos are a good tool to identify areas that need further attention. Here are videos of the same song on three of my systems:

Listening to the Karma Police videos tells me that the gain on the midrange driver needs to come up on the Ultimate Horn System.

Questioning using YouTube video to make adjustments to a system. I know when I take video of my system with my cell phone, upload it and then play it back with my cell phone, laptop or home computer it sounds nothing like it does in person.

I completely agree that the sound on the system videos is not exactly the same as the sound in the room. Having said that, as a tool for making “relative” frequency adjustments they are very effective. Allow me to expand on this: I should have provided some background for using the other videos as references. With the “system remastering” process that I developed and implemented on my WAAR system I was able to dial in that system to sound exactly how I want it to sound with the use of my high-end mastering tools. You can read the details on my “There is a smarter way” thread through the link on the first post. This allows me to use videos of my WAAR system, with the Remastering process, as a reference or datum for making adjustments to the sound of my other systems. I find the use of the system videos to be more effective as a tool than aural memory.

You have to know that with my background in Physics and Electrical Engineering I’m always problem solving and looking for more effective ways to achieve results.

At the end of the day, the proof is always with the resultant sound. Here is the video of Karma Police after the midrange adjustments for you and others to judge for yourself:

I have been thinking of a name for my new horn system. I have been using the term “WAAR” to reference my Wisdom Audio Adrenaline Rush based system so that I don’t have to spell the whole text-string out each time. Since Magico has already been using the term “Ultimate” for their horn system, I have decided to use a different nomenclature. For my Ultimate Horn System, I will now use the term “OKTAN6” when referring to it. Everything gets a unique short descriptor name around here. My custom built HQPLAYER server in use is called “GOTHAM”.

Last week I adjusted the midrange spectral balance and this week I have focused on fine tuning the mid-bass and bass reproduction. The system is coming along and it’s sounding great. I will post a few video clips from last night’s Friday night listening session that showcase the mid bass and bass performance of the system:

This week I have been spending time fine tuning the three T’s: Timbre, Texture, and Tone. The system is coming into its own and playing beautiful, rich tone and innate musicality, in a way that is organic and detailed. Very nice. All the expense, time and effort have paid off and have produced something very special.

Another fun Friday night listening session that went deep into the night, into the early morning. Just didn’t want to stop listening and enjoying the music:

Took time during last night’s listening session to enjoy and celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of Nirvana’s “In Utero” album:

Keeping in the spirit of the day with one of my all time favorites, who put on a killer live set. My wife and I saw them on tour earlier this summer and they did not disappoint:

As I continue to optimize the system, this week the focus shifted to fine tuning the high frequency contour. The resolution and detail of the system is outstanding. The treble energy was a bit hot so I dialed it back a few dB’s to give the presentation more “fullness”:

Phenomenal sound reproduction. I have achieved a new reference level with this system. Really wonderful organic sound:
