That is a smokin deal! If it was near me, I might sell a kidney, or a few pieces of gear. I’ve stood before one (sans listening) and they are every bit as impressive as one would think.
Edit, it’s a replica. I’ll take a closer look. There’s nothing like an original though…

Insert big fish story here!:)
Not quite a big fish story. Shortly before (Christmas? Thanksgiving?) break, I was in the student government office (ASWC) while waiting for the shuttle bus home for the holidays and noticed that they had a credenza-like item covered with a blanket with various paperwork stored upon it. I happened to peek under the blanket and realized that they had a Paragon sitting there like a lump. I casually asked someone I knew who was in ASWC whether they'd be interested in selling it, and he told me that if I could get them a couch for the office, they'd take that in trade. I told them they had a deal and to hold it until I got back from the holidays. When I returned, however, it was gone.

I'm guessing some lucky bastard in Walla Walla has had a genuine JBL Paragon in their den for the last 30+ years.

That is a lot better than mine; Pre-COVID I visited a small AV/Hifi consignment shop downtown and immediately was taken back by the shape of a piece of furniture hiding under a bed sheet. I asked if it was a paragon (as a corner was peeking) out), they said yes and pulled the sheet off (Insert ray of light and gospel music). I offered about $18k in audio gear as a trade, but they said they were looking for cash. It was gone the next week, I’m guessing either eBay or local seller.
I would drop in on occasion to see what they had, but they never phoned me for specific things I was looking for, even though I’d bought a few items there (they may have seen me as competition versus a client). They didn’t survive COVID either, C’est la vie…

Don't feel bad about missing out - I heard a Paragon at the late, lamented Hawthorne Stereo in Portland back in the 90s driven by a Conrad Johnson power amp and it was...not really that impressive. It was an amazing piece of furniture, but the sound was definitely not worth the price.

I could go to door to door I guess....start at Whitman and work outward?

Well, Whitman was where the Paragon was (in the old SUB, which has since been torn down and replaced by the Reid Campus Center), but I doubt whoever snagged it would still be around campus.
